Wheeldon, Nick : Communication problems

Where's The Pope? : Where's the pope?

Hailing from Adelaide, South Australia and formed in 1985, the 'debut' full-length by Where's The Pope? established the band as a bridge between greasy, hardcore punk thrills and manic thrash attacks. After a hiatus and a slight line-up change, 1990's 'Sunday Afternoon BBQ's' diverts from the typified, aural reference points in critical UK punk icons such as Disorder and Discharge (popular in Australia at the time), but sees the band refined as they carve out a passage soaked entirely in their own electric stink. This is a record rejoicing in the lore of beery adolescents on the edge of the city streets with the dark, frenetic menace of 'Geek Attack,' or the tumultuous sludge of 'Tourist Dream' insurmountably evidential in just how profoundly important the band was to the Australian circuit.

Standout favorites of RidingEasy Records' 'Brown Acid' compilation series, White Lightning's stellar discography of rare and under-appreciated heavy psych, proto-metal rock gets a vital revival for new generations to learn how swinging, swaggering and often blazingly fast rock'n'roll is done. White Lightning was formed in Minneapolis, MN in 1968 by guitarist Tom "Zippy" Caplan and bassist Woody Woodrich after leaving garage psych band The Litter (themselves popular standouts from the Nuggets and Pebbles series of garage rock rarities.) Originally a power trio, the band later expanded to a 5-piece in 1969 while shortening its name to Lightning. The quintet's brilliant and rare 1970 self-titled album on Pickwick International's P.I.P. imprint provides 6 of the 10 tracks on Thunderbolts of Fuzz.The original White Lightning trio only released one 45-rpm single "Of Paupers and Poets" during their existence (on local Hexagon label in 1968, later reissued by major label ATCO Records in 1969.) A long out-of-print posthumous album released in 1995 gathered unreleased recordings, 3 of which are found here. This rounds out this collection of recorded highlights from the band's rocky history. Taking their name from a particularly potent type of LSD, White Lightning laid out from the start that it was not cute and cuddly '70s rock. In fact, the band's aggressive tempos are like punk rock way before punk. However, their dirty blues groove and musical prowess shows the band was more than unrefined ne'er-do-wells, they had true versatility.Drummer/lead vocalist Mick Stanhope later relinquished his drum throne to take center stage as lead singer of the expanded lineup. Throughout its initial 1968-1974 run, the band had 10 different lineups, with Caplan, Woodrich and Stanhope the most consistent members - though the band points out that no one member has played in all 11 incarnations of the group. Why Bother? : A year of mutations

The sound of Why Bother? takes the classic Midwestern punk approach of The Zero Boys and Toxic Reasons, adding in warm layers of synth and sci-fi thematics à la The Spits and darker post-punk moments in the vein of early Joy Division. 'A Year Of Mutations' collects tracks from the group's first four EP's, all of which were released in limited cassette and 7-inch lathe cut runs in 2020 and 2021. These have all been remastered, paired with several new tracks exclusive to this release, and repackaged in a fresh layout with artwork from D.H. Strother.

Wight's debut 'Wight Weedy Wight' hit the shelves back in 2011 - and ended up being sold out relatively quickly on both vinyl and CD. Now, with the eleven year anniversary of the record having just rolled around, the band and Kozmik Artifactz have decided to re-issue this underground classic. But instead of simply re-pressing the original version, the re-issue comes as a double LP which contains both the album tracks as well as the live album 'Live auf 603qm', originally an online-only release back in 2012. Both recordings have been carefully re-mixed and re-mastered. The package comes with the luxurious cover artwork, exclusive liner notes and photos. Comes on marbled vinyl, limited to 200 copies.

Wild Carnation : Tricycle

Early 1990's indie rock band Wild Carnation played raw, loud and fast, with Richard Barnes distorted, jangly guitar lines perfectly colliding with Brenda Sauter's propelling bass notes, while Chris O'Donovan kept it together, while pounding the living hell out of his drums. It was a garagey, indie rock mess, more reminiscent early R.E.M., and emergent New Zealand bands like The Bats and The Clean, than The Feelies. After a couple of 7" releases, a full length album was then commissioned, and an evolving Wild Carnation teamedup with engineer Don Sternecker (The Feelies, Speed The Plough, Wake Ooloo) to record their debut full length 'Tricycle', released in 1994. On 'Tricycle', the pastoral quality of their most beautiful ballads was captured perfectly, while retaining enough of the rawness of the live experience.

The story of 'New Start' began in 2012 when Will Z. helped Juan Arkotxa, Leslie MacKenzie and Carmeta to finish 'The Book Of AM', a unique combination of recordings and artwork which has since gained cult status. After the release of 'The Book Of AM', Juan Arkotxa and Leslie MacKenzie asked Will Z. to work on the sequel of their project, called 'The Book of Intxixu', together with Gong-leader Daevid Allen. That follow-up project inspired Will Z. to compose 'New Start', an album inspired by Jain philosophy. 'New Start' takes the listener on a beautiful, cosmic journey. Williams, Hannah -& The Affirmations- : 50 foot woman

It was 'Late Nights & Heartbreak' from 2016 that announced the arrival of Hannah Williams & The Affirmations. Soon after, she learned that Jay Z's producer, No I.D., had played him Hannah's track to inspire his response to Beyonce's 'Lemonade'. The substantial sample of her voice opened the doors to new audiences. What followed was a year of extensive touring in North America and Europe. Hannah and the band had the determination to produce their ultimate record, the captivating '50 Foot Woman' is the result.
