Woorms : Slake

World Destroyer's Pleasure Club : World destroyer's pleasure club

World Destroyer's Pleasure Club are based in Los Angeles. The core members are Neight Trion (The Black Angels, The Shine Brothers), Rocky (Death Valley Girls), Jay Eraser (Grooms, Roya), Oh-Ra (?) and Malware (Dead Meadow). When asked to describe their strange, mutant music some fans and even members have found it difficult to do so. For this reason they have chosen the term Polywave as their designated genre which they envision as including other forms of expression besides music, a tendency to be hyper-eclectic and bearing the distinguishing mark of a commitment to continual, intentional self-transformation. The band has drawn comparisons to Talking Heads, The Fall, Butthole Surfers and Peter Gabriel. As influences they cite artists as varied as Hailu Mergia, Psychic TV, Scott Walker, Fela Kuti and Red Crayola, but these influences dont necessarily reveal themselves sonically as much as resembling the spirit in which they were conceived.

Wunder, Sven : Late again

When the sun hovers near the horizon, the rays of white sunlight are scattered out of the beam by small particles and molecules in the atmosphere that sprinkle the sky with brilliant hues indicating that the day starts to fade. As night begins to fall, tree-tops redden and begin to glow. Darkness closes in and falls like a blanket covering the sky. It is late again and all is in shadow below. It is when stars align and dreams come true. Sven Wunder thrives at nightfall and welcomes the horizon of beginnings on 'Late Again,' a collection ofnocturnal jazz pieces that depict shooting stars andscattered beams from the setting sun, with an emphasis on gentle compositions for piano and orchestral pop-jazz arrangements for flute, brass, and strings.

Wyatt E : Al betuli daru

'Al Beluti Daru' ("The Eternal City" in Akkadian language) features two 19-minute tracks recorded and mixed by doom godfather Billy Anderson (Sleep, Om, Melvins) and mastered by Justin Weis. The composition of the album is a challenging use of techniques and instruments never used by the band before: Saxophones, saz, an unusual use of voices, effects and percussions. Two drum kits have been tracked simultaneously during most of the album.

Wylde Tryfles : Outta tyme

The Wylde Tryfles from Bordeaux sound wild and out of control, playing their modern take on ultra-fuzzed female-fronted '60s garage-punk, full of snotty garage vocals, screams, back from the grave vibes and hypnotic dancing beat. 'Outta Tyme' is a '60s garage-mayhem-punk LP with ten astounding tunes in the tradition of U.S. garage and British R&B/freakbeat with a vintage studio sound, as taken from bands like the Yardbirds, The Night Shadows, The Five Canadians and at the same time a great portion of 80's garage revival bands like The Pandoras or The Cynics, and of course the band's approach to their signature sound.

Wyndrider : Revival (black)

WyndRider is a four-piece stoner doom band from the mountains of East Tennessee. For fans of Black Sabbath, Mountain, Sleep, Church of Misery, and Acid King, the group was founded in 2022 and has been labeled "one of the hardest working bands in the stoner doom community." Harnessing the momentum of their debut album in 2023, WyndRider hit the studio once again in 2024 to record their second album 'Revival.' Working with Danielle Fehr of The Wizard Productions and Electric Valley Records, 'Revival' is the sharpened knife of a band who has refined their sound. After playing all over the Eastern US, the group returned to their home in the Appalachian Mountains, focusing in on the hopes and horrors of living there with an unapologetically heavy Southern groove. This album, washed in the blood of its region, sheds light on the smoke and mirrors of life in the Bible Belt and provides a fix for those left craving more after the first dose that WyndRider brought to the scene.

Xiao Yun : Purple garden

Here is a hidden gem from the 1990s, a sparkling cyber-ambient-Mandarin pop collection produced by Henry Kawahara, the master of cyber-occult music, with silky vocals from Shanghai-born vocalist Xiao Yun Wu. Originally released on CD in 1994 on Kawahara's own HMD label, the Xiao Yun project was launched by Kawahara and his trusted colleague Keisuke Oki, who plays keyboards on the album. Kawahara handled the production, along with guitar, keyboards and programming. And of course, the crowning glory is the voice of Xiao Yun: lovely, floating, ethereal. The singer arranged the songs, which range from versions of previously released Kawahara solo pieces to Mandarin pop classics. All songs are given Kawahara's cyber-occult sheen, which may evoke visions of the cosmopolitan Asia of near-future science fiction, this album will transport you, via 1994, to a sparkling future.

Yama & The Karma Dusters : Up from the sewers (red)

Quintessential underground anarcho-hippie, anti-establishment private press blast by a band (and commune) from Chicago c. 1970, with poetic, sometimes vicious lyrics (Dylan-esque, or Arthur Lee and Love? you decide), and funky, hard-edged bones. Yama & the Karma Dusters (a.k.a. the Euphoria Blimpworks Band) were inter-racial, anti-war, Stop the Bomb, free love hippies, the wildest of the wild kids. They really cook on the up-tempo tracks, sounding like a cross between The Blues Project and Dylan's early electric period band circa 1966, augmented by a violin player. On the hard rockers, founding member Howard Berkman spits out protest without becoming precious, while the band simmers and sizzles. There are melodic folky ballads too, culminating in the gorgeous 'Hello Big City.' The band's ability to mix these elements into a coherent statement - recorded in surprising fidelity - solidify this an overlooked gem of the period. Need to know more? Yamash'ta -& The Horizon- : Sunrise from west sea

An overlooked spiritual classic in two parts, Yamash'ta & The Horizon were a one-off project consisting of a hat-trick of musicians seeking to perfect their craft. In 1971, Hideakira Sakurai, Masahiko Satoh, Stomu Yamash'ta and Takehisa Kosugi gathered in Japan to perform an invite-only concert to a handful of friends. Deep and distinctive electric shamishen becomes a sonic centrepiece over the course; handled by Sakurai, the sound is haunting, like a lone voice amidst a sea of percussive nymphs. Sloshing koto, percussion and eruptions of awe from the crowd all dominate the moments of downtime; a timeless snapshot of Fluxus Japan.

Recorded by a Warsaw-born, but London-raised artist, who currently lives in the Mojave Desert, 'War On Love' is an interesting collection of songs that blends spacious, psychedelic electronica with desert rock. On this album Patti Yang is joined by musicians known from a.o. Primal Scream, Manic Street Preachers, Animal Collective, The War On Drugs and Dirty Projectors.

Ye Ascoyne D'ascoynes : Supersonic shoes

Ye Ascoyne d'Ascoynes were four Medway wannabes/would-bes who fired their own brand of garage/punk/pop across the land.Starting in late 1988, The Dentists' Bob Collins and ex-Dentist Ian Greensmith gathered in Medway's legendary 'The Hole' to play some '60s garage punk covers, also roping in Mark Aitken and Kevin Younger to form a firm line-up. After a year of blasting faves from the 'Pebbles' compilations, they decided not only to add in a few 'garaged up' covers of other lost classics, but also delving into writing their very own songs that combined their '60s garage roots with later influences from the likes of Buzzcocks and Pavement. Early 1990, they recorded a demo at Red Studios of six original songs, and a cover. Later that year, Kevin stepped down from the group.Come 1992, The Ascoynes went back into the studio as a trio to record their one and only single 'Just The Biggest Thing,' with Billy Childish as producer, subsequently releasing it on Billy's Hangman Records label. Early 1993, they went back to Red Studios to record more demos. This album is a result of those two demo recordings. 'Supersonic Shoes' provides prime unreleased early '90s garage from the best Medway band you've never heard of. Limited to 500 copies.

'Sunshine Pop' is a remarkable collection of vital songs which stand out for their bright arrangements and for their harmonies of heavenly amplitude very close to perfection. Brilliant melodies, a hedonistic attitude and above all, a lot of pop, charmingly sophisticated pop. The songs on 'Sunshine Pop' are true guitar pop hymns, which perfectly define the sunshine spirit of vocal harmonies and string arrangements, brass, keyboards, glockenspiels. Repress! The debut-EP of this Anatolian psych-pop sensation consists of four heart-melting gems in which Turkish folk music meets groove and electric action! Singer/multi-instrumentist Derya Yildirim teams up with fantastic drummer Greta Eacott (G-Bop Orchestra, One-Take Records) and three-quarters of Orchestre Du Montplaisant (Antonin Voyant, Graham Mushnik and Andrea Piro). With members originating from Turkey, Germany, France, Italy and Great Britain, Grup Simsek encapsulates the Outernational generation. Unlike in western pop culture, Turkish pop music is often focused on traditionalised songs and endless ways of reimagining these. Grup Simsek take the righteous and rich Turkish poetry to the future whilst not losing awareness of the past.

Now reissued on vinyl, the stunning LP 'Tapestry: Koto & The Occident Sea' is part of a three-album series produced by Nippon Columbia in the mid-1970s, dedicated to the koto, one of the main instruments of Japanese traditional music. The beauty of the trilogy, curated by composer Kiyoshi Yamaya, lies in the fact that they are a modern translation of tradition using newer and more avant-garde sound idioms, integrating the koto with jazz musicians. The result is an original 'crossover' that allows for the awakening and the consequential spread of traditional music in larger contexts.
