White vinyl version. Using doom -a slow, foreboding style of heavy metal- as a template, Swami Lateplate crafts a set of songs that creeps along powerfully. The themes are simple, generally carried by subdued bass lines and ornamented by the piano like salt on a glacier. What jumps out most is Bobby Previte's drumming. Every cymbal vibration and snare snap leaps to the foreground and, with rare exception, decays before the next strike, as much a testament to Previte's assured playing as Jamie Saft's engineering. The sound throughout is bright and super present. Each moment is its own event, each note frozen in amber. Regardless of the rock modeling, the disc is likely to satisfy Saft and Previte's audiences; it could appeal to fans of the fringes of metal as well. It was entirely produced by Bobby Previte and Jamie Saft, recorded and mixed by Jamie Saft at Frank Booth, Brooklyn, NY and mastered by Scott Hull at Scott Hull Mastering, NY. The artwork was designed by Hadi Nasiri.

'Doom Jazz II: Deception' continues the epic story of the 'Doom Jazz' saga, with Jamie Saft and Bobby Previte trading the slow, sensual lines of 'Doom Jazz I' for a more active, muscular sound. Side One, 'The New Friend' and 'Everyone Is Aware' uses a vintage Yamaha organ to create an atmosphere of mystery and space. Side Two, 'Deception' moves into different territory, Saft's distorted Hammond Organ sailing over Previte's active, commanding tom toms in a blues based jam of wild ferocity and intense foreboding. The plot thickens.

Sweet Chariot : Lean into the breeze

'Lean Into The Breeze' is Sweet Chariot's second album, but it's their first for Who Can You Trust? Records. These songs were tracked and mixed on a vintage Tascam 388 analog eight track by producer and recording artist Walker Phillips. Though the band's eponymous debut flirted with '70s inspired California country rock, this album finds the foursome dialing down the Gram Parsons and turning up Graham Parker. 'Lean Into The Breeze' is still rooted in rustic tones, but the songwriting comes from a more modern take on British pub rock, jangly guitar pop and hard throttled boogie jams. Influenced by such bygone bands as Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Grease Band, The Byrds and Big Star, Sweet Chariot also found themselves inspired by Teenage Fanclub, GospelbeacH, Shannon And The Clams, Endless Boogie, and Chris Robinson, who along with Isaiah Mitchell, jumped up on stage with the band in 2018. Sweet Chariot has also shared stages with NRBQ, Mother Hips, The Flamin' Groovies, New Riders Of The Purple Sage, Jesse Dayton, Beachwood Sparks, Allah-Las and the late, great Pegi Young. Sweet Chariot comprises singer/guitarist Eric Shea (Hot Lunch, Mover) and Planes Of Satori drummer Chris Labreche - both from the bygone band Parchman Farm. They also landed bass player Doran Shelley, a former member of The Cramps and Nik Turner's Hawkwind. Ride The Blinds' frontman Chris Guthridge completes the band with shared singing duties and top-shelf lead guitar playing.

Syris : Unseen forces

US power metal band formed by guitarist Scott Payne and completed by Nick Bucci (vocals), Jason Schultz (guitars), Marty Malcolm (bass) and Sean Brown (drums). After a three-tracks tape recorded in 1993 they were noticed by Shark Records with whom they released two albums, debut 'Syris' in 1995 and 'Unseen Forces' in 1998, both only on CD. After their first self-titled album the band was set to go on tour but Payne unexpectedly fell ill and passed away. Then they disbanded until drummer Sean Brown recruited a new lineup completed by Scott Huffman (vocals), Paul Speredes (guitars), Rob Such (bass) and they recorded the second album entitled 'Unseen Forces' dedicated to Scott. Then the band unfortunately quit permanently. Here comes a reissue on vinyl for the very first time.

T.p. Orchestre Poly-rythmo De Cotonou-benin : Unite africaine

Two monumental full-side tracks from a pair of late '70s Orchestre Poly-Rythmo albums, 'Unité Africaine' isn't exactly a compilation, more a combination of the standouts at a time when the band was at the peak of its powers. Originally released in 1977, the title track is an infectious Afro-Latin workout that is interwoven with driving horn stabs by master trumpet player Tidiani Kone. 'Unité Africaine' was recorded over the Nigerian border at the state- of-the-art EMI Studios in Lagos, yielding majestic sonic results. 'Mede Ma Gnin Messe' is taken from the 1978 'Special 30 Novembre', and this time Poly-Rythmo wore their Afro-funk hat to deliver almost sixteen minutes of dancefloor fire. Propelled by Poly-Rythmo's super-tight beats and underpinned by a relentless keyboard refrain, the magic is the stellar horn parts that take this track to another level.As with much of the Albarika catalogue, copies of the original LPs are incredibly tough to locate in anything approaching reasonable condition, so this should be a gift.

El Palmas Music releases a compilation of songs by the famous Venezuelan singer and percussionist Tabaco. Tabaco Quintana is, without a doubt, one of the great masters of Venezuelan salsa. Born in Caracas in 1943, he was tall and very skinny, which earned him the nickname 'Tabaco.' A shoeshine boy and street hawker, at the age of 18 he fell in love with the Caracas nightlife and spent his days listening to the rehearsals of a musical group that he ended up joining, thanks to the intervention of his friend Elio Pacheco. That group was called Sexteto Juventud. Tabaco passed through almost every musical position within the band until he became a singer. It was the resemblance of his voice to Ismael Rivera and his skills as an interpreter that earned him a permanent position in the band.After leaving the group in 1973, he created his own sextet, Tabaco Y Su Sexteto, and later formed Tabaco Y Sus Metales, two groups that achieved international recognition, and became staples of the Venezuelan music scene 'til the mid-'80s. Throughout, and despite his fame, Tabaco was always clear that music had a social role to play, and would often sing in Venezuelan prisons. Sadly, he died young, on May 30, 1995, due to a lung condition. The public overflowed the streets to accompany him to his last dance. This compilation of Tabaco's songs, simply titled 'Tabaco' and compiled by El Dragón Criollo and El Palmas, is an attempt to shine a light on this musical icon, and to show his versatility, vocal ability and unparalleled knowledge of musical rhythms. Primarily known for his voice - which isn't surprising considering his vocal nuances and the different registers he is able to reach - it can be said that he was also no slouch when it came to mixing up the rhythms. On this compilation there is a strong influence of African music ('San Juan Guarincongo,' 'Imolle') and jazz - just listen to the unforgettable beginning of 'Arrollando.' Percussion, piano and wind instruments are high in the mix, but it's the masterful voice of Tab...

Recorded in the rural outskirts of Sao Paulo there is a sense of yearning that permeates throughout the set list of ten unapologetic love songs that fly between lush psychedelic pop to warm, beat-laden neo-soul with Brazilian flavor. The album maneuvers subtly between the different dynamics, channeling soul heroes past and present like Bill Withers, Shuggie Otis and Sault.

Tajak : La sombra del agua (2lp)

'La Sombra Del Agua' is the fourth studio album by Tajak. It was recorded in Coatepec, Veracruz, Mexico, from March till December 2020 during an isolated residency in the forest. The recording process was quite different from previous experiences. Former albums were recorded much quicker, in one or two days of studio sessions. In this latest album, aside from not being recorded in a studio, it was a much more patient, meticulous and intimate process. The main and intimate process. The maintracks (drums, bass and guitar) were recorded outdoors at the side of the Pixquiac river, a fact which is not very usual. After recording the main tracks, there were several weeks spent afterwards editing, recording overdubs and mixing. In this case a lot more instruments were used than they normally use. They kept the traditional bass, guitar, drums and vocals format, then added lots of layers of texture including field recordings, synths and other instruments like ocarina, sitar, flute, twelve string guitar, thunder drum and tape effects, the last one being a very important and special contribution from Pedro Tirado/Servicios Eléctricos. In the background you can hear the ambient sounds from the morning, afternoon and night at the cloud forest. It's the first Tajak album written completely in Spanish. The influence of the cloud forest was very present in the composition of the album. In many of the songs you can perceive the interactions and conversations between the music and the surrounding outdoors environment. The ending result are seven songs which start with solid structures that are eventually unassembled and molten into a soundscape of fractalic sounds that dance between the spacial and the earthly. Co-release by Little Cloud Records in the US, The Acid Test Recordings in the UK and Hole Records in Mexico. Limited to 350 copies on coloured vinyl.

Takahashi, Yuji -& Mamoru Fujieda- : Music for cyber cafe

In 1991, Yuji Takahashi and Mamoru Fujieda collaborated in staging a sound installation at the Sezon Museum of Art in Tokyo, making extensive use of the new artistic possibilities provided by the advent of personal computers. In this installation, a culmination of their investigations into the aesthetic use of new technology, these two renowned leaders of Japanese experimental music used sensors and transducers on objects and in the space itself, via MIDI conversion, to trigger pianos, synthesizers and samplers. The four pieces here were recorded for a cassette-only release timed to coincide with the exhibition.

Masayuki "Jojo" Takayanagi (1932-1991) was a Japanese jazz/free improvisational musician. He was active in the Japanese jazz scene from the late 1950s. He was one of the earliest noise guitar improvisers, and the first (with Keith Rowe) to use the table-top guitar. Originally released in 1972.
