Rava, Enrico : Pupa o crisalide

Enrico Rava was the first Italian jazz artist who was met with acclaim internationally. 1975's 'Pupa O Crisalide' is one of the most interesting works in Enrico's discography. It is a summary of the first phase of his solo career, and contains tracks recorded with three different line-ups. The musical style clearly reflects the composite nature of the album. The first half is funkier, the second is incorporating some Latin and samba elements. Often compared to Miles Davis and Kenny Wheeler, his technique involves rarefied notes, full of atmosphere, and erratic melodic lines.

Red Sun : From sunset to dawn (black)

Red Sun formed in march 2014 after few long night jams under the starry sky of an ancient mill lost in the Piacenza countryside. Their first self-produced album 'Triosophy' released in 2015 and reprinted in vinyl by Spin On Black the years after, serves an original mix of space psychedelic instrumental rock. This album opened the doors of many venues and festivals in Italy and Europe. At the end of 2017 Eno, Mirco and Federico ultimate the second work 'The Wind, The Waves, The Clouds' produced by Psyka Records. The evolution of the band can be perceived in a more powerful and mature sound that enhances the expressive power of the instrumental trio. Throughout these last strange years, Red Sun restarted their musical journey and in 2023 recorded the new material that will take the listener on an introspective adventure full of colors and emotions.

One of the pivotal recordings in bringing about the widespread acceptance of Sonny Rollins as a major figure,'Saxophone Colossus' inspired critics to write scholarly analyses and fans to revel in the hard-swinging invention,humor, and tender-strength balladry. Up to this album, while most musicians recognized Rollins as one of the newinfluential forces in the jazz of the '50s, most critics were carping at Rollins or damning him with faint praise. 'St.Thomas,' a traditional West Indian melody which Mal Waldron remembered as 'The Carnival,' was recorded by manyartists after Sonny introduced it here, and it remains a jazz standard today. Reissued on vinyl is the eponymous album from the progressive jazz-funk band Saluki, originally released in 1977. Featuring members from the highly significant proggers Junipher Greene, 'Saluki' is a much loved rare groove classic and a crate digger's favourite. The album consists of eight advanced and ambitious tracks showcasing Saluki's blistering fusion of prog rock, jazz, west-coast harmonies and funk, as well as great songwriting abilities. This masterpiece has finally been given the royal treatment it deserves.

On 'Moon Child', recorded in 1989, Sanders had largely withdrawn from the kind of screeching avant-gardism on which he at first staked his reputation. Here Sanders plays with an all-star line-up consisting of Stafford James (Sun Ra) on bass, William Henderson (Roy Ayers) on piano, and Eddie Moore (Sonny Rollins) on drums. 'Moon Child', with its attractively spacy vocals, is reminiscent of the days of 'The Creator Has A Master Plan,' and this mood is kept throughout the album and in the choice of cosmic tunes represented on it. On this album the legendary saxophonist clearly reinvented himself as a more traditional improviser, capable of thoughtful and pensive deliberations. Catchy mystical new age vocals, astrological references... Pharoah may remain an acquired taste, but few jazzmen can equal his unique formula of mastering the 'groove'.These rare 1989 French sessions is now back available on vinyl for the first time since 1990. This edition comes packaged as a deluxe 180 gram LP and is limited to 500 copies worldwide (with obi strip).

Satoh, Masahiko : Holography

One of the rarest albums ever from the mighty Masahiko Satoh, a composer and arranger,as well as a key figure in the avantgarde music from Japan. Originally issued on Japan Columbia in 1970, the two sides of very free piano show a sensitivity that's really amazing - still moments of freedom that reflect Satoh's connection to the avant garde of the time, interwoven with his own sense of cosmic creation, in ways that are similar to his later projects. Born in Tokyo, in 1941, Masahiko Satoh's earliest influences came from Olivier Messiaen and Yuji Takahashi, although the pianist earned his living playing in various jazz combos in Japan, Europe and the USA throughout the late 1950s and early 1960s. As a jazz soloist, arranger, free player, or even as organist on the more extreme Japanese rock LPs of the time, Masahiko Satoh successfully navigated his way through it all. Indeed, in this way, Satoh is probably the Japanese equivalent of German free spirit Wolfgang Dauner, with whom he played in the very early 1970s.

Polish three-piece Shofar was founded by Raphael Roginski in 2007. Shofar's material is closely related to the mystical Jewish tradition. The pieces the trio performs come from pre-war musicological research from Ukraine, Poland and Moldova. Most of the songs are 'niguns', meaning magical religious songs that are supposed to lead the listener into a state of trance and ecstasy. This release comprises an LP and an 8-INCH EP.
