Here's one for your long, breezy summer afternoons by the sea. Jazz, funk, tango and bossa vibes kiss each other, all wrapped up in JLR's trademark cinematic feel. In his colourful 'Un Hombre De Buenos Aires,' recorded in 1978, JLR puts the political outcry of his early '70s works aside and focuses on his love for the city of Buenos Aires. As always, Jorge López Ruiz enroled for the recording of 'Un Hombre De Buenos Aires' some of the best musicians in the country. The line-up includes Dino Saluzzi on bandoneon, Domingo Cura on percussion and his lifelong friend Pocho Lapouble on drums. Jorge López Ruiz gets far less credit than he deserves. His crucial role in shaping Argentina's jazz history should place him right next to Gato Barbieri and Lalo Schifrin, giants who found success abroad. It's an honour do dig deeper into his vast discography after having already reissued his masterpiece 'Viejas Raíces' and his historical milestone album 'Bronca Buenos Aires.'

Lopez Ruiz, Jorge : Coraje buenos aires

The missing link in Argentina's jazz history finally sees the light. 'Coraje Buenos Aires' was recorded in 1973, conceived as a follow-up to the historic 'Bronca Buenos Aires' (1971). More explicitly than its predecessor, the texts in 'Coraje' denounced the atrocities of the military junta that ruled the country, and the album was inevitably censored before being released. The tapes, thought to have been burnt and forever lost, were recently discovered in the archive of the late Jorge López Ruiz, allowing us to finally listen to 'Coraje' fifty years after being recorded. As usual, Jorge López Ruiz recruited some of the best musicians around to play with him, this time pianist Santiago Giacobbe, drummer Pocho Lapouble and guitarist Ricardo Lew (all three members of Quinteplus at that time), as well as Hugo Pierre and Jaime Prats on alto and tenor sax respectively. Mastered from the original tapes by Pablo López Ruiz. Includes foldout sheet with bilingual notes by author José Tcherkaski and an English translation of the album's song texts.

Saucejas, a traditional vocal group of the Latvian Academy of Culture, was established in 2003 in Riga. Its members focus on traditional Latvian singing styles and techniques, with particular attention to those local traditions involving multipart singing. Their repertoire includes various types of archaic polyphony, such as drone singing, as well as a variety of later forms of multipart singing. Many written sources describe the Latvian tradition of singing outdoors in nature, but they lack any audio documentation. It is for this reason that Saucejas decided to develop a project that explored this musical tradition from both the theoretical and practical aspect. This 2CD set 'Daba' ('In Nature') comprises the results of this project, which was carried out from 2017 to 2020. Comes with a book with text in English and Latvian.
