Von Wieding, Alexander : Magir - klangspiel

After his one-man-lo-fi-garage-doom-blues alter-ego Larman Clamor, Alexander von Wieding releases his newest musical child into the world. Far from his previous musical orientation, as AvW he explores simpler, almost more intimate paths. With this project, he sets his latest creation, the visionary graphic novel 'Magir', to music. With synthesizer sounds, which with their minimalist nature are reminiscent of soundtracks from '80s horror films, von Wieding "paints" musically once more. It hums, buzzes, crackles and purrs wonderfully analogue from the speakers. A completely different world opens up here than that previously known from Alexander von Wieding. Partly surprising and partly not - after all, the illustrator and musician's versatility in styles is already known and loved. But 'Klangspiel' is more than a normal soundtrack. Rather, von Wieding's performance sees itself as a kind of expansion to the image of the graphic novel written and drawn by him. Meditative and seething, 'Klangspiel' takes us into the mysterious and transcendental world of 'Magir'. The melodies eat their way into the ear canals like a smoldering fire comparable to great artists like Rudy Adrian, Steve Moore or Sinoia Caves, von Wieding does not shy away from exploring previously unknown territory with synthesizer sounds and almost new age-like music. Also working wonderfully on its own and as a pure soundtrack, 'Klangspiel' unfolds its full potential in combination with the graphic novel 'Magir - Erstes Buch: Sicht' ('Magir - First Book: Sight') and the so-called 'Wegweiser' ('The Guide'), a cryptic commentary on von Wieding's wordless story. Once again, von Wieding adds another creative and sparkling particle to his creative mosaic. And who knows where the journey will go next... But one thing is clear: his latest instrumental creation 'Magir - Klangspiel' is atmosphere at its finest!

Thank you, ma'am!'Keep On Falling' was recorded in their secret batcave, located near the entrance of the Porte d'Aubervilliers on the dark border of the 18th arrondissement of Paris, evoking the apocalyptic universe of the film 'Rue Barbare' (1984). One can notice a slight change in direction compared to their first album, perhaps with fewer club influences. In a macabre dance between shadow and light, each track on the album reveals an unexpected depth, inviting the listener to plunge into an enchanting trance. This work is more mature and fluid than their first opus, and Vox Low merges genres to create an enchanting blend of soaring krautrock, funereal post-punk, hazy dub, and minimalist rock'n'roll. While the tone may seem to harden, these scoundrels also appear in a more pop and strangely brighter light.

Vrooming Crew Avec La Grandsart & Dolores : Sex call from paris o.s.t.

Green Cookie Records presents the soundtracks of two lost cult movies of the '60s. In 1969 the French-Italian director Bernard Fabriano returned to the movie scene with the independent film 'Sex Call From Paris.' The original motion picture soundtrack was performed and composed by The Vrooming Crew with La Grandsart & Dolores. These recordings have been discovered in the 2000's in a suburb of Paris. All audio has been remastered and comes on pink vinyl.

Vulgar Boatmen : You and your sister

Before there was widespread Internet, before YouTube or Pandora or BandSpace, one of two things could happen to a promising rock'n'roll band. A few got national notice if a big label picked them up. The rest, the vast majority, existed, all across the country, in their own private Idahos. In the mid-eighties, college radio stations began to grow in influence, and gradually some of these bands found ways to get the sound of their music directly to potential fans. A few -R.E.M., the Replacements, Hüsker Dü- grew in prominence (slowly). Many others made decent music, got some attention, toured the country a few times with the help of a network of fans' couches, and dropped back out of sight. This is the story of one of those bands. They made not just decent music but wonderful, bottomless, and transcendent music, and at least one great album, a re-release of which is in your hands. Back in the late eighties, new records were sent out to critics and radio people on plain cassette tapes or vinyl LPs a week or two before they were released. None of the myriad avenues available today to spread word of good new music were around, so the recipients actually had to put the cassette in a player or throw the LP on a turntable and listen to what they sounded like. And because it was an adventuresome time, and because some of the bands made difficult music -imagine hearing Pavement for the first time, say, not to mention Hüsker Dü- you often had to listen, really listen, several times or more, to find out what was going on, or, more prosaically, to make sure there wasn't something there you were missing. (It's not a precise analogy, but note how today you have to watch three or four episodes of some of the new high-end TV shows before you get what their creators are up to.) One of those records that were sent out at the time was 'You And Your Sister,' by the Vulgar Boatmen. In those years, remember, rap from acts as diverse as Public Enemy, De La Soul and the Beasties was rampant; Sonic Youth was at its height. By contrast,...

Wales, Josie : Ruling

Inspired in equal parts by gangsterism and the exceptional talent of U Roy on King Tubby's sound system, Josie Wales left gang violence behind to toast on U Roy's Sturgav sound system at the dawning of the 1980s; after a popular set of albums for Junjo Lawes, Michael Chin and George Phang, the excellent 'Ruling' was produced by singer Tristan Palmer and released on Ossie Thomas' Black Solidarity label in 1986. Josie is on fine and commanding form throughout, equally at home on spongy Roots Radics rhythms and early digital tracks built by Steely and Clevie. An exceptional slice of mid-1980s dancehall - all killer no filler!

Walker Diver : General fuckedupness notwithstanding

When England went into "lockdown" - ex-Pretty Thing Wally Waller went straight into producing solo acoustic videos, performing some of the classic songs by The Pretty Things he helped write with Phil May, alongside other favourites. Wally's further labours in the music room augmented the solo takes to full 'one-man' band productions on most of the songs from the series. The one and only album from Danish heavy metallers WASTED sees a reissue. Released back in 1984, the album contains eight tracks. The music is very diverse, ranging from speedy, to doomy, always with a present chainsaw guitars, with a mean and raw sound. For fans of early JAGUAR, MERCYFUL FATE, WITCHFINDER GENERAL. Definitively one of the best and rawest metal efforts from the early heavy metal scene in Denmark, alongside MERCYFUL FATE and EVIL.

Waswas : Just because you wander...

...IN THE DESERT, IT DOES NOT MEAN THERE IS A PROMISED LAND' -'Just Because You Wander In The Desert, It Does Not Mean There Is A Promised Land' is the name of the avant-garde, fingerpicking project by Italian artist Alessandro Denti. Drawing on artists like John Fahey, Henry Flynt, Jack Rose and co, Waswas has also tastefully utilised field recordings, loops, slide and reverbed electric guitar to great effect. The result is a sonically diverse and gorgeous pastoral folk album.
