As a result, the lyrics are utterly poignant, desperate, yet sometimes bearing a flash of gallows humour. This soundtrack is a purging fire.

After the two albums 'Liquid Orbit' and 'Game Of Promises' now follows the third album. This is a very special Liquid Orbit album: until now they have presented solely composed songs with carefully framed arrangements and well developed lyrics. During the lockdown time the band had no opportunity to play together, so they listened to hours and hours of recorded jam-sessions and everybody was so excited about all this spontaneously created music, that the idea was born to release some of it, and this is the result. Every track on this album was fully improvised, nothing was planned. Everything was created in the moment, including the spontaneously composed sung verses, in which the sound qualities and shapes of the syllables dominate; a veritable stream-of-consciousness which fuses mind and music together. There are no additional overdubs!

As its name suggests, this contemporary band from Italy is heavily influenced by London's late '60s psychedelic underground scene, which existed in venues s.a. the UFO Club and Middle Earth. This instrumental album, obviously the band's fourth full-length, is full of Hammond organ, Mellotron and Moog sounds. 'Four' is recommended to anyone into acid-rock, psychedelia and progressive rock, especially fans of Atomic Rooster, early Pink Floyd and Gong.

Lucifer Was : Underground and beyond

'Underground And Beyond' was the debut album by cult proto-metal band Lucifer Was, containing songs written in 1971-72. With inspiration from Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath and Atomic Rooster. Remastered audio. Includes a colour insert with liner notes by Klemen Breznikar plus rare photos. Established in 1970 in Oslo, Lucifer Was were a powerful psychedelic hardrock and hard-prog band that split up in 1975. The band hibernated until 1996 when they reunited for a live concert. The chemistry appeared to be there still, and they entered a recording studio and recorded their first ever album, 'Underground And Beyond', featuring songs written in 1971-72. Their line-up included two flute players plus bass, drums and lead guitar by Thore Engen.

Luck of Eden Hall : Par crone

The Luck of Eden Hall pillar Curveys space rock album, Par Crone, sees the light of day for its 15th anniversary. Recorded in Chicago, Par Crone is a tasty, crunchy time capsule nugget not only for 97, but for fans of The Luck of Eden Hall. Par Crones self-titled isnt a dry run for LOEH; its a complete platter birthed from Curveys brain and fingers that stands on its own, but is also a link in the LOEH chain. Where LOEH layers the psych frosting on the rock, Par Crone puts a little more weight on the rock, but the popped psychedelic rock and rollisms are still there. Curveys pop savvy is all over Par Crone, this time in a bit tougher, glossier exterior; a bit stadium rock, think a bit prime Cheap Tricky like guitar on stun and whole lot of riffs. Par Crone certainly sounds of its time with the crunch and the production, but the hooks are there and in true Curvey fashion, theyre sweet, rocking, free of cynicism and stick to your ribs. LOEH isnt disposable in their confections, and neither was Par Crone; the sugar intake, and exhaust, never reaches overdose either. Some of the synths and laser-beam flashes may lock Par Crone to its release date, but a little time travel goes a long way and 15 years later much of it sounds like a breath of fresh air. -Mr. Atavist, Sunrise Ocean Bender

Luck of Eden Hall : Belladonna marmalade

Chicago is also coincidentally home to a band called The Luck of Eden Hall who have impressed me greatly with their album 'Belladonna Marmalade' (a CD on Walrus Records, no address shown) which our man on the spot Bruce Pates kindly sent in. Their first 45 was on Limited Potential (as was fellow Chicagoans The Smashing Pumpkins's) and they followed it up with a collection called 'Under The Sea' - but 'Belladonna Marmalade' (which is where I came in) is the works alright; exotic guitar pieces, great songs, a dash of mysticism and a whole basketful of psychedelic nuances which all come to a head on 'Mariead' in particular, and which are reflected in the gloriously trippy sleeve-art. I'd go so far as to risk upsetting an awful lot of Terrascope readers by saying I could stomach hearing a lot more of The Luck of Eden Hall than I could the Pumpkins themselves, who I humbly consider sounded 'corporate' even before they became so; anyway the challenge has been thrown down for those of you who'd care to take it up. After a quarter of a century, one of the most important dark progressive Italian bands ever, is back creating nightmares and does it going back to the particular era when the original band was splitting up. Their third album was already entirely written but the project was shelved. Until now. Today those compositions come back to life as they have been completely recorded using the original lead track of the old pre-production. The result is Malombra at its best. The album showcases the usual visionary spirit and dark atmospheres. With moments full of tension followed by furious uptempos yet solemn parts. In addition to all that the band now can deliver a full powerful and dark sound that they couldn't achieve at the time. 'T.R.E.S.' is a homage to traditional Italian progressive rock together with a tribute to a certain mystery narrative. A record for all the enemies of the obvious.

'Reanimated Memories' is the 16th album by Welsh rock legends Man. Man veteran Martin Ace (vocals, bass), his son Josh Ace (vocals, guitar), James Beck (vocals, guitar), Phil Ryan (vocals, piano) and Rene Robrahn (drums) recorded the album at Cowshed Studios in London. Featuring pedal steel guitarist B. J. Cole, who provides the band-typical country and West Coast rock sound. 'Reanimated memories' is Man's first studio album after five years of absence, a perfect addition to the band's previous catalog.

Re-release, comes in a digipak with a 12-page booklet. After 'Diamonds And Coal' from 2006, 'Kingdom Of Noise' was the second album by the Welsh psychedelic prog rockers Man without the involvement of an original founding member. Ray Williams and Jeff Jones left the band in 1970 and while the band carried on for some time, they disbanded in 1977. Six years later they reformed, and after the release of many live albums, brand new studio albums saw daylight.

The late '70s found Turkey in an economic slump, and there was a huge rise in political violence. Baris, who so often put out collections of singles, rose to the occasion by spending 6 months holed up with his longtime backing band the Kurtalan Ekspres. The result was this studio album of Anatolian bummer psychedelia, often unfairly overlooked because it came out in the rather un-cosmic year of 1979, but also considered his best work by many. Yep, there are still electrified versions of Turkish folk songs, and the spaceshot ARPs & Korgs of "2023" are here too, but dont expect a happy swing around the ceiling of a planetarium. The real star of the album is the keyboard player, whose name translates to Sword Agent. 'Yeni Bir Gun' is viciously funky and brilliantly arranged, with tidbits stolen out of the latest disco hits, and lean, mean synthesizers that emerge from the beats like carbonated bubbles. Melancholy maqams and catastrophic Korgs collide when the Turkish psych master glides unflinchingly into the grim late '70s!!
