Sula Bassana : Cv sessions (2lp)

'CV Sessions' are a combination of the time of the coronavirus and the equipment Sula used in these times, which is analog gear connected and modulated with CV cables (control voltage). Double meaning. Sula used a bunch of small analog synthesizers, drummachines, sequencers, a polyphonic synth, a string ensemble, a casio SK 1 & SK 60, Stylophone x1, guitars, a bass, Mellotron and whatever. Recorded simply and never spending much time on it. The first track was recorded late March 2020, others followed until December. All music composed, performed, recorded and mixed by Sula Bassana (Dave Schmidt) in his bedroom. Mastered by Eroc. Coverdesign by Sula. Limited to 400 copies on voodoo vinyl, includes the track 'What is Reality' which is missing on the CD.

Sula Bassana : Nostalgia (black)

In the 20th year of Sula Bassana's career a new album is showing up! It contains songs composed and recorded from 2013 to 2018, but finished at a few evenings within the last years. After some more electronic orientated albums, this one here is more in the style of the rock orientated albums like 'Dreamer,' 'The Night,' 'Dark Days' or 'Live At Roadburn 2014.' The first two tracks include some vocals, which is rare on Sula albums, and show the more rockier side of this album. The title track is something different, very melodic, even slightly jazzy, and features Mellotron and some pure fuzz. 'Wurmloch' is a full space flight based on a synthesizer arpeggio with the rest recorded around later. And the album ends with the oldest of these tracks: 'Mellotraum.' This was the first track Sula recorded with his freshly arrived Mellotron (4000d) on it's first day, back in 2013. Limited to 500 copies on 180gr black wax.

Sula Bassana's first soundtrack album features 60 minutes of totally spaced out and minimalistic music for the sci-fi feature-film 'The Ape Regards His Tail', directed by Michael Yates. The music was made with synthesizers, string ensembles, mellotron, organ, e-guitar and e-piano. It shows the mellow and relaxed, but also deep, dark and melancholic side of Sula Bassana. Wide and floating soundscapes combined with deep melodies and spaced out sounds. Close your eyes and watch a movie inside your head, constructed by those tunes and your mind. This 2016 release by the the UK's neo-psych veterans delves even deeper into the surrealistic worlds of sci-fi and space rock, including hints of early kraut and dark psych music. However, it still retains the classic elements of the well known Sun Dial sound which is mainly due to Gary Ramon's guitar work and the band's psychedelic trademark.

The third offering from Norway's Svartsinn could be acknowledged as the end of a trilogy, the first opus 'Devouring Consciousness' was an album containing stories made during what the artist explains as being some difficult and rough times. The second offering, 'Of Darkness And Re-Creation', was the process of trying to deal with these struggles and reflect on them. 'Traces Of Nothingness' is simply the reaction, result and the path ahead in this ongoing, seemingly endless darkness. A slightly more melodic, sad and obscure side of Svartsinn that still keeps the cold and dark atmosphere that defines his sound. First time on vinyl. Black LP edition of 200 copies.
