RSD 2022 release. In a nation said to have 'never had it so good', Britain's jazzmen were certainly proving this to be so during 1958. Not yet drowned by rock and roll, jazz was the youth culture music of the cognoscenti, those who, digging both modern American records and Continental fashion, were laying the groundwork of the first phase of 'Mod.' But there was more to 1958 than aping the mannerisms of others. London had its own scene and its own style - a Soho kind of sound - centred around clubs like the Flamingo and bands like the Jazz Couriers and there was seemingly no shortage of visiting US jazz giants, from Dizzy Gillespie to Dave Brubeck, queing up to give their approval for music they thought world class. V/A : Brown acid: the 17th trip (black)

Lucky number 17? You better believe it. We here at 'Brown Acid' have been scouring the highways and byways of America for even more hidden stashes of psych/garage/proto-punk madness from the so-called Aquarian Age. There's no flower power here, though-just acid casualties, rock stompers and major freakouts. As always, the songs have been officially licensed, and all the artists get paid. Kicking off this trip, Grapple's 'Ethereal Genesis' is a heavy psych gem from 1969 written by J. Bruce Svoboda, a.k.a. Jay Bruce, formerly of The Hangmen and The Five Canadians (who were actually the same San Antonio band). The latter's 1966 garage favorite 'Writing On The Wall' has been endlessly covered, but Grapple were never heard from again. With a guitar riff that blatantly rips off Sabbath's 'Black Sabbath,' Image's mostly instrumental lysergic obscurity 'Witchcraft '71' (originally unveiled that very year) also boasts a horror-movie organ intro, a voodoo drum break and some championship chanting. Private press heads might recall late Image drummer John Beke from his '80s reemergence with country rockers Crossfyre. Stone Hedge were a seven-piece rock band out of Michigan with a penchant for Creedence and anthropomorphism. 'Smokey Bear' is their 1972 tribute to the official mascot of the U.S. Forest Services -not to mention the A side of their sole single- and it recalls the kind of organ-drenched swamp jam that soundtracked many a Burt Reynolds flick back in the day. If you think being a Southern rock band from Milwaukee doesn't make much sense, that's probably why Crossfire changed their sound along with their name -to Bad Boy- after signing with United Artists. Bad Boy's severely underappreciated second album, 'Back To Back,' is a 1978 hard rock jewel, but you can hear their boogie-woogie roots on this rare 1975 single. With a band name like Primevil and song title like 'Too Dead To Live,' you probably expect some gnarly proto-metal riffage. Instead, you a get a harmonica-drenched, soul-infused rock rave-up from 1972....

If you were smart enough to get your grubby paws on the first 'Scrap Metal' compilation, you probably have a pretty good idea of what you're in for with our second installment. Featuring long-lost gems from ultra-rare 45s and private press singles-plus one previously unreleased banger - 'Scrap Metal 2' maintains a steady NWOBHM course. Packed with infectious outliers and supremely talented one-and-done metal warriors from the crucial British movement of the late '70s and early '80s (and some killer American obscurities inspired by them), this collection delivers all the fist-pumping, riff-mongering and flashy solos of heavy metal's golden age. As always, every track has been officially licensed and every artist gets paid.The tracks:As a late entry into the NWOBHM sweepstakes, JJ's Powerhouse was formed in Merseyside, England, by guitarist Jon "J.J." Cox with members of his previous band, Quad. Much like the opener to the original 'Scrap Metal' comp, you can hear early Metallica coursing through this legendary ripper. Coincidentally, this ultra-rare 45 was released in '83, the same year as 'Kill 'Em All.' Taking their name from a 1978 sci-fi novel by Marion Zimmer Bradley, Welsh super troopers Storm Queen reveled in animal-print clothing and flying Vs. The Motörhead-meets-Priest anthem 'Raising The Roof' is the flipside to their only single, which the band self-released in 1982. Led by guitarist Dave Morse, Storm Queen's earliest lineup included bassist Bryn Merrick (RIP), who would go on to join The Damned. Roaring out of Birmingham, England, in 1975, Jameson Raid palled around with fellow Brummies Black Sabbath and named themselves after a failed 19th century attack that helped kick off South Africa's Second Boer War. Their three-song 1979 debut featured the infectious 'It's A Crime,' which comes across like a deadly hard-glam version of Budgie. Still fronted by vocalist Terry Dark, they're going strong as of 2022. A.R.C., a punky proto-metal group from the UK, released the boozy single 'Home Made Wine' b...

V/A : Naino, naino!

'SPANISH GIPSY SOUL FUNK 1971/1978' - "We are true to the principles of the first '¡Naino!.' Flamenco rumba fusion which in the hands of intrepid producers becomes Catalan rumba under the influence of sounds coming from Cuba and Puerto Rico in the early 1960s, rumba pop under the umbrella of the British Invasion and American pop of the late 1960s, and disco rumba with the arrival funk and disco from the USA in the mid-1970s. Everything happens thanks to a flourishing record industry located mainly in Barcelona with labels such as Belter, Discophon or Vergara. After the death of the fascist, sanguinary dictator Paquito Franco in November 1975, the international record industry establishes in Madrid through major labels CBS, RCA, and a new fusion led by producer Jose Luis de Carlos and labeled as Gipsy Rock, Caño Roto or, in the Flamenco field, especially in couplets, Flamenco Pop. As Oriol Farràs pointed in the previous volume, rumba moved from tablaos to discotheques, understanding the concept of discotheque at that time with a slightly different meaning and less conditioned style-wise. The selection on offer here complements volume one. Starting with an A side packed with floor fillers, with Peret's 'Chavi' as the top example of gypsy funk fusion under production of Josep María Bardagí and Josep "Rabbit Rumba" Cunill, and four examples of the answer to that sound as produced by Jose Luis de Carlos, showing the four cardinal points of this fusion success: Las Grecas, Los Chorbos, El Luis and Chango. De Carlos transforms the sound of Madrid's flamenco artists spicing it with soul, rock, glam, dub, funk, disco and gospel. These five opening tunes alone could feed a whole scholar course on the possibilities of rumba fusion and its incredible dance potential. Back to the record. There are not only examples of Afro-American flavored fusions. Progressive rock and Anglo-American psychedelia of the seventies are also influences represented here. They started a path that would later be known as "rock progresivo Andalúz...
