Plastic People Of The Universe : Egon bondey's happy hearts club banned

Formed in 1968, The Plastic People Of The Universe - named after a Mothers of Invention song and heavily influenced by Frank Zappa and The Velvet Underground - were iconic artists of the Prague Underground, a loose collective of Czech poets, philosophers and artists considered a threat by the Communist government. Banned and jailed under Czech communism The Plastic People Of The Universe are a true story of artistic perseverance, and the authorities claimed their music would have a "negative social impact", and so they were banned from playing for the public, having to play secret shows in remote locations. The raw DIY sound of their recordings escaped to Europe on tape and was released without the band's knowledge, their first album being a document of artistic defiance against the control of a stringent political environment they lived under. 'Egon Bondy's Happy Hearts Club Banned', their debut LP, was recorded in 1973-74, but not released until 1978 (and even then, only in France). A beguiling album of lo-fi experimental rock that falls somewhere between Can, The Fall and Canterbury psych-folk with Ayler-esque sax solos. First-time vinyl reissue, comes with booklet, poster and postcard.

Pluto : Journey's end

Pluto was an English rock band originally from London, active during the early '70s. In November 1971 they released their only album, 'Pluto', with hard rock heavily influenced by the blues and tinged with progressive rock. 'Journey's End' is their follow-up in 2020.

Ptarmigan : Ptarmigan

Limited second press of 300 copies. Hypnotic, mystical, hippie psychedelia and acid-folk, dominated by long and largely instrumental sections, all based on a complex interplay of recorder, hand drums and acoustic guitar. In 1972 Vancouver-based Ptarmigan recorded the basic tracks for what would become their only album. Finally, in 1974, Columbia Records released the album to critical acclaim, but minimal sales. Ptarmigan's album is one of those hidden gems from the '70s that make life better when you discover them many years later. For those who know the LP it's an undisputed classic! A total absence of common musical structure and an unfiltered rush of sound recordings create a nightmarish, claustrophobic atmosphere. Pyrolator used a Korg MS20, SQ10 sequencer, B20R home organ, a Davolisint synthesizer, a Logan string orchestra and a dual-channel tape machine.

'Live At Pulchri' is Pythagoras' first offering since much-missed drummer Bob de Jong passed away in 2011, shortly after the release of the band's magnus opus 'The Correlated ABC'. In this live registration of an impromptu concert performed at an exhibition by Dutch painter and sculptor Ilja Walraven, Pythagoras' only surviving founding member René de Haan teams up with ABC guest musicians percussionist Joshua Samson and bass veteran Peter "Peer" Wassenaar plus beats magician Rob Bothof playing his custom-built electronics. The result is unique and entrancing, the typical Pythagoras sound labelled as 'progressive electronic', created by De Haan's sentimental Mellotron and dreamy ambient passages, blending amazingly well with the compelling rhythms and patterns provided by Bothof, Wassenaar and Samson. Makes you think of cats? Capricious, mischievous and fascinating, the concert (79:00 minutes!) forms an imaginative counterpart to the art of Ilja Walraven, as exemplified by the charming cat portraits adorning the CD's excellent artwork.
