Goad : In the house of the dark shining dreams (2lp)

...Dreams". It is sophisticated progressive rock, taking a lot from symphonic rock (early King Crimson, Genesis) and from evolved hard rock (Rush, Triumph). In 2004 they participated in the much-anticipated Tribute to King Crimson, edited by Mellow with the collaboration of other Italian labels. Goad chose Epitaph, one of the most beautiful pieces from Robert Fripps band, whose symphonic panoply has always been a reference for Rossi and the group. The cover of Have You Heard - The Voyage by The Moody Blues is also made and would appear soon after on the tribute CD organized by Mellow Records. With great musicians like Gianfranco Dini, first French horn of Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Leonardo Tini, Nicola Di Staso, former Frank Zappa band member from the RAI orchestra, the album The Wood - Dedicated to H.P. Lovecraft was recorded. Mellow Records put it out in 2006. Toward the end of 2005, the group met Black Widow Records, possibly the most "alchemical" label in Italy, if not on the whole planet. An atmosphere was established between the musicians and the company that brought them quickly to the decision that they should work on some pieces from Dark Virgin. They would take those most in keeping with the style of the label, re-arrange them, modify them, record some new ones, and face the difficult task of testing themselves with a couple of absolute masterpieces like Killer by VDGG and 21st Century Schizoid Man by King Crimson. Goad, with fresh enthusiasm, manage to quickly write a new work entitled In the House of the Dark Shining Dreams, for which they prepared a new graphic look. Musically, the characteristics of the group remain the same, but this time the general sound seems substantial and energetic. There are sounds and atmospheres with no tempo, alive with genial lucidity they alternate between explosions of creative sound and moments of profound gothic romanticism. A new era for GOAD.

Hunka Munka : Foreste interstellari

Keyboard player Roberto Carlotto from Varese, whose nickname was Hunka Munka, began playing since his childhood, though his musical career was seriously compromised by an aircraft accident that caused him some heavy injuries. His beginnings as a professional musician took him to play in England, Germany and Switzerland, where he even had the chance of supporting such artists like Rod Stewart and Colosseum. In Italy he had previously played with Big 66, I Cuccioli and later with Ivan Graziani (Anonima Sound 1970), before entering a solo career starting with a single in 1971. As a solo artist, Carlotto was easily recognized by his very good technical quality and the high level of his equipment, that included an incredible number of different keyboards and even the early examples of tape drum machines. His only solo album, 'Dedicato A Giovanna G.', with its outrageous cover, is a soft-prog album, obviously dominated by Hunka's keyboards (especially his self-customized Hammond organ) and odd tremolo voice resembling Demis Roussos or Bee Gees. Among the backing musicians were drummer Nunzio "Cucciolo" Favia from Osage Tribe and guitarist Ivan Graziani.After the album release Carlotto joined Dik Dik in 1973, again with drummer Cucciolo playing with him too later as Carlotto & Cucciolo. He has also presumably released an electronic album in 1984, 'Promise Of Love' (Atlantide AMX 12003), under the name Karl Otto. In 2011 Roberto Carlotto joined the reformed Analogy playing with them many concerts. In the early 2000s Roberto Carlotto started a collaboration with keyboardist Joey Mauro, talented user and repairer of vintage keyboards; together they revitalized the Hunka Munka name... and finally they released an inspired album called 'Foreste Interstellari' in which Carlotto writes lyrics, plays keyboards and sings lead. Joey Mauro plays keyboards as well and writes music together with Mr. Hunka Munka.

The fourth album by this dark prog band from Italy is a concept album born from a collaboration between the band and author Cristian Raimondi. Despite the complexity of the arrangements, the band retains its typical horror/soundtrack-like sound, which has always been its mark. 'Creators' is the continuation of 'Multiversal Matter' by cosmic prog band Runaway Totem.Part 1: 'CREATORS': The song 'Viators' refers to alien races that undertake an intergalactic journey to land on earth. 'Advent Deus' is the arrival of these alien forms. These forms which are not of earthly matter but vibrate at higher frequencies are seen as Gods. 'Betelgeuse' is the alien music carried by the Betelgeuse Star. 'Lemuria' is defined as a place and time that our memory has lost. The people of Lemuria are ancient and technologically advanced and the music is reminiscent of those days.Part 2: 'RED STAR': 'The Gate Of Orion' is the subsequent coming of other alien travelers who depart from Orion. By opening portals they enter our world. 'Remembering Betelgeuse' is the alien memory of the music brought by the star of Betelgeuse. 'The Spiral' is the desire for genetic manipulation of aliens on Earth's populations, to create a slave. But another alien, pro life race intervenes in the aims of the first and manages to create the divine man, destroying the previous plan. 'Universal Union' is the new man connected to the primordial essence. This new man enters a dimension from which he started.

Semiramis : Dedicato a frazz live

Unforgettable live in Genova by the legendary '70s Italian prog band. This is the last concert with Maurizio Zarrillo who sadly died 2 months after the show... and just before the band played in Japan presenting this as DVD-CD. After 44 years from the LP 'Dedicato A Frazz' they performed the whole album with the addition of spoken parts narrated by Giampiero Artegiani which introduced each track creating an emotional atmosphere. New members Vito Ardito on vocals, Ivo Mileto on bass, Rino Amato on keyboards joined the original founders Paolo Faenza on Drums, Maurizio Zarrillo on Keyboards and Giampiero Artegiani on acoustic guitar. The band show a great energy and freshness with a really thrilling performance, the show finished with a new song 'Morire Per Guarire' with the narration part by Giampiero Artegiani 'La Fine Non Esiste.' Also includes another new song called Mille Universi' that returns a great and inspired band to the progressive world! LP in gatefold cover.

Three Monks : The legend of the holy circle

A singular and rare neogothic concept album combining the sound of a grand pipe organ with the typical progressive rhythm section: 'The Legend Of The Holy Circle' is the second concept album from the Italian band Three Monks, following their debut album 'Neogothic Progressive Toccatas' from 2011. The project is centered around the incredible pipe organ playing of Paolo Lazzeri supported by a thundering bass/drums rhythm sections and little else. This album is a church organ purist's dream. The various tracks are inspired by baroque composers and stories of cathedrals and their huge, historic pipe organs.. The music is incredibly heavy, vast, formal, and tinged with centuries of age. You feel as if you are walking into one of those centuries old European cathedrals and hear the bombast of the ancient organ, yet it is swirled into often dizzying progressive rock pieces. It is rightly compared to the bombast of EL&P, Areknames, Jacula, Van Der Graaf Generator and Il Balletto di Bronzo, but with pipe organ in stead of varying kinds of keys or synths, vocals, or guitar. Most of the music is in the heavy vein with eccentric and baroque aesthetics. Three Monks is a band that should be heard by heavy prog fans and fans of serious organ and classically influenced prog.
