...FEATURING THE HIGHLIFE' - Recorded in 1963 and originally released on Colpix, 'Highlife' was one of Randy Weston's first declared homages to African music and heritage. A direct fruit of his first trip to Nigeria in 1961, the album is considered one the highpoints in Weston's long and articulated career. Beautifully arranged by the great Melba Liston, the music reveals the unbroken relationship between the African ancestral sensibility and the Afro-American jazz experience. Under the direction of Melba Liston and pianist Randy Weston here we have a first class group of musicians including heavyweights such as Ray Copeland - trumpet, Jimmy Cleveland, Quentin Jackson - trombones, Julius Watkins - French horn, Aaron Bell - tuba, Budd Johnson - Booker Ervin - saxophones, Peck Morrison - bass, Charlie Persip, Frankie Dunlop - drums, Archie Lee and George Young - percussion. One of the greatest Pan-African vision examples in music!

Wet Tuna : Party in the house

Continuing this super productive year for the Feral Child label, the label releases an absolute peach here. Four totally whacked out, deep cuts that defy any hopes of genre pigeonholing; a deliciously dazzling moulding of ambitious grooves and ideas from the wonderful Wet Tuna. Never short on dizzying ambition, Feral Child described it as a 'Space Dub Psych Disco collision' on an Instagram post and that kinda holds true a few days on here. Fabulously bonkers and groovy in equal measure, this one comes hugely recommended. Wet Tuna feature Matt (MV) Valentine & Erika (EE) Elder alongside Jim Bliss, Woods' Jeremy Earl and on this record, Myriam Gendron. They've left it to Matt to offer up the introductory words: "Wet Tuna specializes in homegrown, dubwise psychedelia. Exploration is paramount. You have a third ear? Probably if you are that kind, that's spectrasound. They never do it the same way twice. 'Party In The House' features Myriam Gendron and has poetry penned by Benoit Chaput of L'Oie De Cravan. Samara Lubelski rips some electric violin, Jeremy Earl from Woods/Woodsist rides some golden tones singing harmony. Wet Tuna also has minor outlying islands, handmade things. Desert legend Sean Wheeler is an American musician and pioneer in the Palm Springs underground music scene. Bad Otis Link is a Los Angeles artist best known for his imagery printed on t-shirts and flyers in the days of the early Southern California punk scene. Link has created iconic imagery for such bands as The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Social Distortion, The Circle Jerks, The Damned, and many others. Aldo Struyf is a multi-talented, Belgian musician and band leader for Mark Lanegan's live performances during Lanegan's European tours.

This is a record rejoicing in the lore of beery adolescents on the edge of the city streets with the dark, frenetic menace of 'Geek Attack,' or the tumultuous sludge of 'Tourist Dream' insurmountably evidential in just how profoundly important the band was to the Australian circuit.

Alfredo may be best known for his work with first Kyuss and then the band born from its ashes, Queens Of The Stone Age.
