All music and lyrics are written by Dan Heide and arranged by the whole band. Ten songs written in a period when a lot of big changes were happening. Dealing with loss, grief, depression - but also love, hope, belief and personal success. A highly emotional and deeply personal record - made by a band who hadn't been in the same room for 15 years, but with a common hunger to let the world know what X-pleasure is able to do. Recorded in the legendary studio Velvet Recordings (previously called Studio Nova) in Ostfold, Norway, where countless Norwegian top-selling bands and artists have their spirits glued into the walls. 'His Master's Voice' was produced and engineered by Christer Krogh and mastered by Dave Collins Mastering in LA.

Xiao Yun : Purple garden

Here is a hidden gem from the 1990s, a sparkling cyber-ambient-Mandarin pop collection produced by Henry Kawahara, the master of cyber-occult music, with silky vocals from Shanghai-born vocalist Xiao Yun Wu. Originally released on CD in 1994 on Kawahara's own HMD label, the Xiao Yun project was launched by Kawahara and his trusted colleague Keisuke Oki, who plays keyboards on the album. Kawahara handled the production, along with guitar, keyboards and programming. And of course, the crowning glory is the voice of Xiao Yun: lovely, floating, ethereal. The singer arranged the songs, which range from versions of previously released Kawahara solo pieces to Mandarin pop classics. All songs are given Kawahara's cyber-occult sheen, which may evoke visions of the cosmopolitan Asia of near-future science fiction, this album will transport you, via 1994, to a sparkling future.

Yama & The Karma Dusters : Up from the sewers (black)

Quintessential underground anarcho-hippie, anti-establishment private press blast by a band (and commune) from Chicago c. 1970, with poetic, sometimes vicious lyrics (Dylan-esque, or Arthur Lee and Love? you decide), and funky, hard-edged bones. Yama & the Karma Dusters (a.k.a. the Euphoria Blimpworks Band) were inter-racial, anti-war, Stop the Bomb, free love hippies, the wildest of the wild kids. They really cook on the up-tempo tracks, sounding like a cross between The Blues Project and Dylan's early electric period band circa 1966, augmented by a violin player. On the hard rockers, founding member Howard Berkman spits out protest without becoming precious, while the band simmers and sizzles. There are melodic folky ballads too, culminating in the gorgeous 'Hello Big City.' Joe Yamanaka, born in Yokohama, was of mixed descent. His father was a US Army soldier who hailed from the Caribbean. He played psychedelic rock with the Flower Travellin' Band. He was also a philanthropist, travelling around the world to help people in countries where conditions aren't great. He himself was raised in harsh conditions as well, being born in a brothel and growing up in an orphanage. In post-war Japan, it was not easy for him to grow up looking racially different from his peers. Joe Yamanaka joined The Wailers after Bob Marley had passed away and recorded 'Reggae Vibration' with them. The very first track is also called 'Reggae Vibration' and can be seen as his introduction to the genre. Being a rock artist in his home country, you will still hear a strong rock influence in his songs. Recorded And remixed At Tuff Gong Studios, 56 Hope RD Kingston Jamaica, In April 14th 1982 ~ April 30th 1982. The LP includes an insert/poster (60x30cm).

Yamash'ta -& The Horizon- : Sunrise from west sea

An overlooked spiritual classic in two parts, Yamash'ta & The Horizon were a one-off project consisting of a hat-trick of musicians seeking to perfect their craft. In 1971, Hideakira Sakurai, Masahiko Satoh, Stomu Yamash'ta and Takehisa Kosugi gathered in Japan to perform an invite-only concert to a handful of friends. Deep and distinctive electric shamishen becomes a sonic centrepiece over the course; handled by Sakurai, the sound is haunting, like a lone voice amidst a sea of percussive nymphs. Sloshing koto, percussion and eruptions of awe from the crowd all dominate the moments of downtime; a timeless snapshot of Fluxus Japan.

Wewantsounds continues its Akiko Yano reissue series with the release of the singer's third studio album 'To Ki Me Ki,' recorded in New York and released in 1978 in Japan. It follows her cult 'Iroha Ni Konpeitou' LP and keeps the similar blend of Japanese pop and New York funk found in the latter. 'To Ki Me Ki' features such musicians as Rick Marotta, Will Lee, and David Spinozza, and also programmer Hideki Matsutake who would soon join the YMO with Akiko. 'To Ki Me Ki' is reissued outside of Japan for the first time, remastered in Tokyo by revered engineer Mitsuo Koike and featuring original artwork by Tsutomu Murakami with four-page color insert and new liner notes by Paul Bowler.

Wewantsounds continues its Akiko Yano reissue programme with the release of 'Iroha Ni Konpeitou,' another superb Akiko Yano album and one of her funkiest, highlighting her unmissable singing and songwriting talents. Recorded in Tokyo and New York City, the album features a superb line up of the best musicians from both cities including Haruomi Hosono, Shigeru Suzuki, Tatsuo Hayashi, Rick Marotta and Will Lee. It sees Yano mixing Japanese pop with funk and a touch of electronics, playing a wide array of keyboards programmed by YMO synth wizard Hideki Matsutake. This is the first time the album is released outside of Japan and this LP includes remastered sound and and booklet with lyrics and full line-up.

Bob Balch here. In November of 2022 I went out to Joshua Tree for a day of jamming with the guys in Yawning Man with the intention of calling it Yawning Balch. No riffs were planned. We just plugged in and played. The only discussion beforehand was that Gary Arce and I wanted to mess with tons of guitar pedals. I knew that while we were jamming it sounded great, but it wasn't until I got home and listened to it all that I realized we had something special. It's hard to believe that we jammed for five hours and got two full length LPs and then some out of it. Every player killed it on these recordings and I'm beyond grateful to have my name involved with this legendary band. Fingers crossed they invite me back out annually for more jam sessions.
