Friedman, Ruthann : Hurried life: lost recordings, 1965-1971

The album 'Free Man' by the Friimen Muzik Company from 1976 was recorded at the famous Decca Studios in Lagos and hs eight swinging tunes. Afrobeat and over the top melodic funk influenced brought by a wide array of both local and international artists. Originally released in 1976 on Anodisc Records Nigeria, Tidal Waves Music presents the first official reissue of this seminal Afrobeat/Afrofunk album. Frustration could have easily played safe releasing a record basically identical to the previous one; intense, abrasive, honest but with no risk. They could have prepared their slow but inevitable exit. Instead of setting up a comfortable routine, Frustration recorded its fifth album as if it were the first, like a bunch of guys who've been playing together for six months, who have nothing to lose. Post-punk influences are still present on the album. 'So Cold Streams' is full of energy, raucous lyrics and full-on audacity featuring Jason Williamson of Sleaford Mods who makes a guest appearance. 'So Cold Streams' is, paradoxically perhaps, their most disillusioned, energetic and free record. Especially as the whole album is contained within the sleeve image. There's space, strength, light, rage and disgust. A desire to destroy everything. To make a clean slate. To come with something different. Something that makes you look at the world with a different perspective.

The relative classicism of Frustration's sixth album 'Our decisions' quenches the thirst of fans. Their music is driven by an initial desire, sufficiently complex that its expression is never a repetition. Frustration doesn't teach music history, but that doesn't mean they don't know where they come from. One of the great joys of listening to this band is that they had time to figure out what they wanted and what really keeps them together. Produced in-house at Mains d'Oeuvres, premixed by guitarist Nicus, mixed by Jonathan Lieffroy; there's been a bit of a shift to port since their last album, 'So Cold Streams'. Fry, Devin James -& Sari Andoni- : Radicans

2020 release. A stunning collaboration between Denver songwriter Devin James Fry and Palestinian oud master Sari Andoni, 'Radicans' is a meditation on the value of setting aside expectations, opening one's heart to another, and letting the ear guide. Coming as it does during a time of reckoning and unrest in America, 'Radicans' is a purposeful mingling of Arab and American folk and psychedelic music traditions, and serves as a lucid reminder that we are at our best creatively when we let ourselves be vulnerable with others. Recorded live at Driftwork Sound in Austin TX, and featuring Janie Cowan on upright bass and Clayton Lillard at the drums, this deep eight-song includes tracks spanning decades. Lead track 'Abuse Nobody' was co-written by Fry and Andoni for this session, while the album's heaviest track 'The Animal Kingdom' has been heard at Fry's live shows reaching back 18 years.

Fuchs, Limpe : Amor

Limpe Fuchs is a legend in the experimental music scene. In the late sixties, this percussionist drummed on self-made instruments, together with her then husband Paul Fuchs, in the Ensemble Anima. During that time, Limpe and Paul Fuchs cooperated with the classic pianist star Friedrich Gulda, as well as with jazz luminaries like Albert Mangelsdorff, and continually attracted the interest of their audiences in new constellations. For the most part, 'Amor' reflects on love as an interpersonal and spiritual experience. Drawing inspiration from such different authors as Giordano Bruno, Hilde Domin and Serge Kahili King, 'Amor' is a record of compositions one could almost call "songs" although they're far from being performed in a conventional way. It is also Limpe Fuchs' most openly insightful and vulnerable record to date.

Limpe Fuchs writes about her work on 'Gestrüpp': "I am a composer and performer of acoustic and visual events. In the studio I am lacking the visual element. Therefore I like to work with multitracking. As a soloist I listen to my field recordings and integrate them into my new compositions. I do love radio plays and that is how I create a sort of audio theatre with the aid of my very special instruments and noises."

Fuchsia : Fuchsia

Originally released in 1971, the Fuchsia album is one of the best examples of British progressive and psychedelic folk-rock, full on inventive arrangements and songwriting. Here's a long overdue vinyl reissue. Fuchsia was formed by a group of Exeter University students. They were Tony Durant (previously of psych band Louise) on acoustic/electric guitars and vocals; Michael Day on bass and Michael Gregory on drums plus the three-piece classical ensemble of Vanessa Hall-Smith (violin, backing vocals); Janet Rogers (violin, backing vocals) and Madeleine Bland (cello, piano, harmonium, backing vocals). Signed to Pegasus Records (the "progressive" branch of B&C Records), Fuchsia recorded their self-titled album at Sound Techniques studio with producer David Hitchcock (Caravan, Mellow Candle, Genesis, Camel...) The main inspiration for the album was Tony Durant's readings of Mervyn Peake's gothic novels such as 'Titus Groan' and its fictional character Lady Fuchsia Groan.Like some of their contemporaries (Comus, Mellow Candle...) Fuchsia only started gaining recognition in the following decades, thanks to fans of obscure psychedelic folk. Today, Tony Durant leads a new version of Fuchsia, still playing and recording. Newly remastered sound. Original artwork in hard cardboard sleeve. Insert with liner notes and rare photos/memorabilia. Repro of the rare promo insert.
