Bachdenkel : Lemmings (2lp)

Bachdenkel was an English rock band that started under the name The U (Don't) No Who in 1968. The three piece consisted of band leader Colin Swinburne on vocals/guitars/keyboards, Peter Kimberley on bass/piano/vocals and Brian Smith on drums, with Karel Beer as an additional musician, engineer and producer. The group relocated to France to live, perform and record. Their first effort - 'Lemmings' - was released on Philips France in 1973, showing their excellent musicianship and songwriting. Conceived as a three sided album it was recorded during the summer of 1970. This double version includes 3 missing tracks originally conceived for the Initial Recording Company EP, a small label ran by Karel Beer. The album has an evident late sixties British psych-rock flavor, but comes with occasional harder moments and longer, more developed compositions in a proto progrock manner.

Il Ballo Delle Castagne is an Italian band that was formed in2007 by two musicians coming from different backgrounds:vocalist and lyricist Vinz, previously brainchild of a "low-fiproject" called Calle Della Morte and Marco Garegnani,previously with a band called The Green Man. The line up wascompleted by Diego Banchero (Malombra, Recondita Stirpe andEgida Aurea) on bass and Jo Jo on drums. The name of the bandmeans 'The Chestnut's Ball' and it was inspired by a legendinvolving Pope Alexander VI (1431-1503) and his luxurioushabits: the Chestnut's Ball was a kind of "Satanic Sabbath", where naked women used to dance in the light of candelabrumspicking chestnuts from the floor with their mouths. The musicof Il Ballo Delle Castagne is an interesting blend of hardrock, progressive and new wave. Their sound is gothic and darkand it could remind of bands like Antonius Rex or Il BigliettoPer l'Inferno. Il Ballo Delle Castagne were formed in 2007 byfour musicians coming from different backgrounds. The music ofthis band is an interesting blend of psychedelia, hard rock, progressive and new wave. Their eponymous debut album wasreleased in 2009 and in the same year they released a 10" vinylsingle featuring two covers, Biglietto per l'Inferno'sAnsia/Confessione and Franco Battiato's Paranoia. TheKalachakra album was released in 2011 on the independent labelHau Ruck S.P.Q.R. and distributed by Black Widow Records. It'sa concept album inspired by 'Wheel Of Time', a documentary filmabout Tibet by Werner Herzog, 'Kalachakra'. The album isdedicated to the Dalai Lama and to the struggles for theliberation of Tibet. Their new album is released on BloodRock Records and distribuited again by Black Widow and its called'Surpassing All Other Kings'. Inspired by the Babylonian heroGilgamesh, 'Surpassing All Other Kings' closes the Ballo DelleCastagne trilogy that began with the 10" single called '108'and the full length album 'Kalachakra'.
