'VOL. 1: ETERNAL THING' - Incredible 1954-1964 black pre-pop dance music. The Club Methusalem, Nomen est Omen, is musically dedicated entirely to the biblical times of modern popular music. In their definition it sounds like this: they are playing mid 1940s to early '60s rhythm'n'blues, rumba, mambo, cha-cha-cha, rock'n'roll, early soul, ska, jazz, schlager, doo wop, gospel, twist - vinyl only. Founded in summer 2016, the Methusalem DJ collective was the musical host in Vienna's most beautiful urban garden location, the Volksgarten Pavilion, for three summers every thursday. Other locations followed. The Methusalem sound refers to the 500 year old African diaspora, which produced countless musical blossoms in the middle of the twentieth century. They also shed light on the shock waves of these then new styles on the European music market. Their goal is to show everyone when pop music was at its most beautiful: at the time it was created! Vinyl only is a matter of honor for them. The trend of rediscovering the old dances of the era before, such as Lindy Hop, Shag, Charleston etc., takes us further to the times when all these styles merged into one, the "rockin' an' rollin'", the harbingers of soul and funk, and thus modern pop music. 'EAST AFRICAN BENGA AND RUMBA, 1980-1985' - This compilation collects a number of 7" singles produced by Audio Productions Ltd. based in Nairobi in the first half of the 1980s. The bands featured on this release are the New Gatanga Boys, Ruwengo Bros Band, Banana Hill Band and Les Victoria 'C' Kings from Kenya, Les Moto Moto and Orch Les Volcano from Tanzania (the latter being led here by Charles Ray Kasembe after the death of Mbaraka Mwinshehe). The closing track is by Orch Zaituken Band, whose name is a contraction of the countries its members came from: Zaire (now Democratic Republic of Congo), Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya. The group is emblematic of the Kenyan capital's role as a magnet for East African musicians seeking to earn a living by recording and playing live in the 1970s and 1980s.

Go-go girls in leopard print bikinis undulate to the wail of a sax. A sultry showgirl appears like a mirage and peels off a crystal-crusted glove to whistles and whoops. It's a juke joint, a barrel house, an alternate time and dimension, with the whole room flailing in giddy unison, spirited into that raw, earthy, elemental rhythm. That is the Hoochie Koo. '4 INTERPRETATIONS OF JAPANESE FIELD RECORDINGS' - Killing reworks of field recordings. This project was recorded in Japan, and handed over to Hiroaki OBA, Inoue Shirabe, Tim Karbon and Japan Blues for interpretation. Japan Blues takes a couple of swords and a taiko drum to task, in a dubbed techno-pop hoedown. Tim Karbon makes some Mr Fingers-esque moves, Hiroaki OBA gallops to a dancefloor climax and Inoue Shirabe evokes some fokloric mystique. 300 copies only for the world.
