Acda, Chantal -& Eric Thielemans- : A new score for koyaanisqatsi

Dark-folk songwriter Chantal Acda and beyond drums-percussion musician extraordinaire Eric Thielemans propose a new score for 'Koyaanisqatsi,' re-actualising the incredibly beautiful, raw, rhythmic and touching images of this '80s cinematographic masterpiece. Slow deep electric waves, lonely synths in sonic desert landscapes, rhythmic pulses, transporting drums and bells, and deeply longing sounds and voices make up the audible fundamentals of this imagined, neo shamanic, ritualistic music to accompany the Earth as it keeps on supporting our post human frenetics even today. This release contains a selection of the musical material scored for a live performance together with the screening of the movie. The live performance premiered on Film Festival Gent and Vooruit in the fall of 2022.

Book Of Air: Vvolk : Vvolk

This second chapter is recorded by a group of 18 improviserswith roots in jazz and classical music. The group investigatesperforming and improvising music, in close relation to the present time; what are the possibilities in playing music, when changes occur unnoticed? How do musicians relate to the running time of a performance? How does our hearing and memory react to these slow changes? As a result 'Vvolk' lets you experience music which is less perceived in the present time, but rather occurs in our memory of the past. This clearly challenges theimprovising musicians, and makes audience and performers discover new territories in collective improvisation.

Bow : Bow

Brussels-based string quintet BOW celebrates musical freedom. Juggling between their own written music and pure improvisation, the ensemble has worked since its creation on a personal and modern approach, digging into their instruments' capabilities and blending a large scope of influences. Its debut eponym LP gathers five instantly-composed pieces that were recorded live by Christine Verschorren in the EchoCollective studio in Brussels. During the day, BOW repeated musical concepts, textures, and interactive games. Then, during the night, with the machine already well-oiled and the musicians free of all expectations, the ensemble embarked out into the unknown, discovering with wonder unexplored sonic territories, delivering a deep and profound music woven with five strands of yarn.

Die Anarchistische Abendunterhaltung + Rudy Trouve : Musik fur animierte tonspurfilm

'Musik Für Animierte Tonspurfilm', the twelfth album by Die Anarchistische Abendunterhaltung (or DAAU, as they are commonly known), is the soundtrack to a series of short, abstract animation films by Rudy Trouvé, who also acted as a creativedirector during the recording process. The music originates from acoustic improvisation sessions by accordionist Roel Van Camp, clarinetist Han Stubbe, double bass player Hannes D'Hoine and percussionist Jeroen Stevens. These took place according to conceptual guidelines set by Trouvé. Sometimes the starting point was a play on words or a random chord sequence, sometimes a specific atmosphere, but the playing field was always kept deliberately limited. Hence, the musicians were forced to build a musical structure with minimal means. The result was cut on cassette, after which the Antwerp enfant terrible Rudy Trouvé, known from his work with dEUS, Kiss My Jazz, Gore Slut and I H8 Camera among others, happily hit the tracks with a virtual sledge hammer. DAAU's pieces were cut up, sampled, drastically restructured and pasted together again, a method that had been applied earlier on the retrospective album 'Hineininterpretierung' (2017). On top of that audio collage, the musicians added new electronic layers, using a digital accordion, synths, digital bass and marimba. DAAU says: "On the soundtrack, like on the older record, we were looking for a symbiosis between an acoustic and electronic sound. And there too we messed around with dub and krautrock references." Franck, Yannick -presents Mt Gemini- : Just like a river

Yannick Franck (Orphan Swords, RAUM) presents his project MT Gemini. A deconstruction of ska, rocksteady and skinhead reggae from the '50s, '60s and '70s. Rather a passionate deconstruction of a genre than compositions or remixes per se, this incantatory tribute favors abstraction using loops, distortion, compression, variations of speed and height, and effects (delay, reverb, chorus). Recorded in different states of altered consciousness, MT Gemini is built of spontaneous and unexpected combinations. It is an attempt to generate inner spaces where the borders between reverie and reality blur. An hallucinatory shock, a journey made of distant echoes, an atmosphere imbued with joy and nostalgia. Limited to 400 copies on marbled vinyl.

Guiraud, Christophe : Kutra begulma (2lp)

His most recent pieces intimately mix instrumental timbreand sound hybridization, cultivating a certain secrecy aroundthis alchemy. Here more than everywhere else, ChristopheGuiraud's compositions create a dialogue between thetimes, from the polyphony of Ars Nova to Spectralism,while integrating his noise heritage. Knizak, Milan : Broken music

The first ever vinyl reissue of a 1979 'masterpiece' by Czechoslowakian experimental artist Milan Knizak, a representative of the East European equivalent of the Fluxus (anti-art art') movement. Knizak made this musical collage with damaged, worn, broken, or otherwise defective LP's.

Kosmose : First time out

A previously unreleased mid-'70s recording from the Belgian cosmic project Kosmose, featuring Alain Neffe, Francis Pourcel and Daniel Malempré. The trio's music blends cosmic sounds with experimental and noisy tendencies. Presented here is one long-stretched 36-minute track, spread over two sides.

Laet, Joris -de- : Experimental & parametric music 1976-2017 (2lp)

Belgian musician Joris De Laet was born in 1947, and was a self-taught artist and music and art video composer. De Laet is the founder of the SEMensemble, a group of musicians-composers specialized in performing experimental music and live electronics. Through 'Experimental & Parametric Music 1976-2017', more than 40 years of De Laet's works are unveiled, from 'Signalisations' (1976) to 'Mnemosyne Pour Une Acousmaman' (2017). The twelve compositions are explained in detail by the composer.

Maurice Louca and his band Elephantine's album 'Moonshine' shines brightly with a live, raw, collective sound. Maurice Louca's band is incredible: double drummers Tommaso Cappellato and Özün Usta, Piero Bittolo Bon on alto, Daniel Gahrton on baritone, Isak Hedtjärn on clarinet, Rasmus Svale Kjærgård Lund on tuba, Rosa Brunello on bass, Els Vandeweyer on vibraphone and Louca on guitar/lap steel/synth. As Asher Gamedze puts it in his essay: "Abstract territories of freedom, always grounded, expansive, multiple, internally differentiated, and elephantine." This journey, this slowly drifting sonic meditation,is an 'inner soundscape', a dialogue between the senses,the conscience and the world, inside/outside, interconnected.Like waking up from a long dream, and being stuck into itsecho. The April Sessions immerges the listener into a drone-ishuniverse, full of random acousmatic events, inner monologuesand a vast and unwritten subjective map to be drawn. Anthony Moore (Slapp Happy, Henry Cow), Dirk Specht and Tobias Grewenig have known each other and worked together since the early 2000s. They have collectively participated in a number of projects including live performances and recordings. In 2016, as part of The Missing Present Band, they released the live LP 'The Present Is Missing' on A-Musik. The following year theyreleased 'Ore Talks', a double LP, realised in collaboration with Therapeutische Hörgruppe Köln.

Ogives : La memoire des orages (2lp)

At the border of genres, Ogives is an ambitious musical project, initiated and led by composer and musician Pavel Tchikov. This large ensemble leads us onto a path to a sacred universe, to a cathedral ofsounds, whose foundationsare rock and classical music. Born in Liège (Belgium), Ogives offers a resolutely intense personal and poetic work, dominated by layers of melodious, polyphonic, shouted or lyrical voices.This first album from Ogives, 'La Mémoire Des Orages' (The Memory of Storms), is build and orchestrated around poems written by two members of the group. These texts revolve around the themes of the perception of time and the perspective ofdeath. We find here all the group's influences, ranging from post-rock, prog to contemporary music, baroque and medieval music, through electronic music and noise, all exploited to forge a homogeneous and singular material. From the first choral notes to the last sharp riff, it is a dense and melancholic epic, carried by inhabited and versatile musicians. The album was mixed by Steve Albini.

Palo Alto : Difference and repetition (2lp)

'A MUSICAL EVOCATION OF GILLES DELEUZE' - This album (the tenth in Palo Alto's discography) was born from two ambitions: to pay tribute to Soft Machine's 'Third' on form (4 sides/4 titles) and to philosopher Gilles Deleuze ('Difference And Repetition' is the title of his thesis) on the contents. The 4 long pieces of this double concept album were developed over 2 years and each has a different style and climate. Bold and kaleidoscopic, 'Difference And Repetition' perfectly synthesizes the musical and literary obsessions of Palo Alto. Formed in Paris in 1989, Palo Alto released its first album (a cassette) on the Italian label Old Europa Cafe in 1990. The band is now composed of Jacques Barbéri (also a science fiction author), Laurent Pernice (ex-member of the French industrial band Nox) and Philippe Perreaudin (also coordinator of several compilations and reissues: Legendary Pink Dots, Un Département, Nino Ferrer Revisited, Ptôse, Hardy Fox). Literature, and particularly science fiction, is a leitmotiv in the band's work. Antoine Volodine, Thomas Pynchon, Philip K. Dick, Lewis Carroll or J.G. Ballard have been invoked many times. In recent years, Palo Alto has multiplied musical collaborations with, among others, The Residents, Ptôse, Klimperei and Tuxedomoon. From industrial music to inextricable electronic ramifications, by making a detour through improvisation, the musical universe of Palo Alto is multifaceted. ...AND EXPERIMENTAL MUSIC' - This LP reveals the extraordinary diversity of research - almost all hidden - by Spanish musicians in the '50s and '60s. Those pieces were composed while the country was under the tyranny of Francisco Franco.It is truly the ultimate grail, developed by musicologist Miguel Alvarez-Fernandez, he is its curator, editor and commentator. This undoubtedly marks a major step in the approach and understanding of this music which had to fight to exist before the death of Franco in 1975.

The anthology 'Spectra Ex Machina' brings together rare documents pertaining to so-called occult phenomena, most of them taken from little-known archives. In the course of three volumes, this series traces an audio history of parapsychology through the exploration of spiritualism and haunted houses(vol. 1), musician mediums (vol. 2) and experiences of extrasensory perceptions (clairvoyance, psychokinesis, etc.) and electronic voice phenomena (vol. 3). The link between music, sound and the paranormal is manifested in many different ways. Gerard van der Leeuw, the Dutch historian and philosopher, wrote "Music represents the great struggle of reaching the wholly other, which it can never express." Furthermore, "The effect of music on the emotions is so mysterious as to seem magical. There is no logical explanation why a particular combination of musical notes, whether in the form of a tune or of a simple chord, can affect the heart. Nothing in nature has perhaps so persistently resisted explanation," as said Derek Parker, the British journalist.Since music is arguably the most intangible of the arts and since the paranormal, in all its manifestations, continues to intrigue people, the placing of these two subjects together seems obvious. This second volume of musical and audio anomalies continues and expands upon the works initially reproduced in the latter. Winter Family is a duo made up of Ruth Rosenthal and Xavier Klaine, who met in 2004. Their dark, saturated and dense music is described as 'death swing', 'weird wave' or 'funeral pop'. They recorded new parts of this album in St. Martin church of Maxéville, France.
