Bags' Groove was recorded by Rudy Van Gelder and originally released by Prestige Records. It compiles material from two 10" LPs recorded in 1954, plus two alternative takes. It is described in Allmusic as "…a cornerstone of the post-bop genre." It features Thelonious Monk on the two takes of the title track, Sonny Rollins on tenor saxophone, Kenny Clarke on drums, Milt Jackson on vibraphone, Percy Heath on bass, and Horace Silver on piano in "Airegin" and "But Not For Me (Take 1)."

More than sixty years old, Walkin' still remains a crucial staging post in the history of jazz. Originally recorded in 1954 and initially issued on a couple of 10 albums, tt features a mix of quintet and sextet material, recorded during his spell with Prestige Records and produced by Bob Weinstock. The various tracks were gathered together, along with a previously unreleased track, and issued as a 12 album in 1957. The end result is an important album in the development of bop music, a genre Miles Davis practically owned.

Drummers Jimmy Cobb and Elvin Jones and bassist Paul Chambers reconfigured their approaches to blend with the orchestra under Evans' command and Davis uses a muted flugelhorn for the epic opener; his solo on 'Saeta' is blinding and the adapted Andalusian folk song 'Solea' draws on flamenco. 'Relaxin'' with the Miles Davis Quintet is in every way a masterpiece. When Miles Davis, the trumpeter (1926-1991), hadformed the band in 1955, his colleagues - tenor saxophonist John Coltrane, pianist Red Garland, bassist Paul Chambers, anddrummer Philly Joe Jones - were not considered jazz-world A-listers. And before conquering his narcotics addiction earlier in the '50s, Davis had seen his once-promising career go into eclipse. By 1956, however, his sound, especially when muted, was an achingly personal counterpart to the vocals of Billie Holiday and Frank Sinatra. 'Relaxin'' (plus its prestige companions, 'Miles,' 'Cookin',' 'Workin'' and 'Steamin'') reestablished Davis, and elevated his quintet as the gold standard of small groups. This set is called 'Relaxin'' because of the ballad performances in several different bright tempos. From medium-bounce to crisply up, 'Relaxin'' remains one of Davis's sunniest outings, a prime example of one of the outstanding ensembles of the 20th century reaching the summit of their artistry.
