Anona : Anona (red)

Currently known for her work with Wax Machine and The New Eves, Brighton's Ella Russell boldly brings forth her debut EP, 'Anona.' Rich in instrumentation and unfolding like a story, 'Anona' timelessly blends elements of freak folk, jazz, classical and world influences. 'Anona' is an immersive time capsule into Ella's world of personal mythology. Beautifully picturesque, it evokes landscapes which feel out of this world yet warmly familiar.

The main ingredients for the space cake are unchanged, but this work explores a darker space with an extended use of drone atmospheres, groovy tempos and sporadic synth and vocal inserts. 'Beautiful, Beautiful Desolation' is the title of their first full-length and is promising to please the fans of Melvins, Earth, Toner Low and whoever aims to soak their brain in a bath of distorted frequencies. While the intro seems to continue the space-rock voyage of their previous EP, the opening riff clears immediately the path for a heavier trip that reaches the deepest point with the feedbacks and drones of the Earth-ian 'Like Men Gone At Sea'. Side B is a surprise again and introduces synth layers and distorted vocals that are totally new for the Perth trio, but then they close with what they do best. '90s-inspired slow riffs and a long psychedelic interlude of the banger 'Lungbeers' carry the listener to the end of this 40+ mins work that is brought on the streets by the joined efforts of Sound Effect Records and Kozmik Artifactz.

Apollo80 / Dimartis : Reverberations, vol. 1 (blue)

Sound Effect Records presents the first release of 'Reverberations,' a split series with the intention of delivering bands across the planet sonically united by a musical common ground. The first instalment, called 'Tales Of Dust And Winds' sees the Western Australians Apollo80 joining forces with the Argentinian-Patagonians Dimartis to take us on a trip through desertic landscapes made of winds, cold sunsets and naked rocks. The Australians, now at the third chapter with Sound Effect Records, offer a 20 minute long desert/kosmische one-riffer cavalcade in pure Can/Neu tradition but with a heavy twist that will please the lovers of long instrumental trips. Turn the LP and you'll find Dimartis (10 years on the scene and surprisingly at their debut on vinyl) with three tracks beautifully arranged balancing silences and reverbs that evoke the milestones of desert rock. Really an excellent concept aiming to take us travelling through the Australian bush and the Patagonian flats with two bands that squeezed all their local authenticity in every groove. Bhopal's Flowers : Joy of the 4th

Hindu deities dancing in the sky of the American desert, psychedelic cosmic pop hanging by a thread to the star of the shepherd, the music of Bhopal's Flowers seems to point to an unknown but familiar direction: A world where John Wayne and the Virgin Mary drive a convertible Lincoln, John Fitzgerald Kennedy on the backseat, greeting the crowd of angels. This album continues the quest started started in 2016 with 'Lovesongs & Psychedelic Tones' on which the trio sitar - tanpura - 12 strings guitar is digging bridges between modal and tonal musical systems, on an anthroposophic message. Fullfilled with mellotron, harpsichord, leslie effect, this easy listening record is filled with joy and bright melodies on a sunshine pop feel, with the usual Hindustani taste from Bhopal's Flowers. With this ode the 4th degree of the musical scale, 'Joy Of The 4th' expresses the will to spread simple but eternal life rules: each and every evolution is based on 7 steps, according to the following pattern: 3 - 1 - 3. As the most evolved form is not the most complex but the one that have solved the complexity with a pretty simple way of expression, 'Joy Of The 4th' claims simple pop songs with a deep and vintage production. Dedicated to Noel Pezzano (Bhopal's Flowers' leader's son) born in 2021, the 10 tracks are fed by childhood hapiness, shimmering colorful instrumentation, like the sound of a baby toy. Blml : Maze (white)

BLML are the long standing, personal, vehicle for George Karanikolas (guitarist and founding member of The Last Drive and "father-figure" of Omegaray). 'Maze' is their 6th release, following up from 2015's 'Panopticon', and a vivid proof of Karanikolas' great balance between maturity and spontaneity! Packed with some strong songwriting (and even a T.Rex cover!) and a rock-solid performance/production, 'Maze' bustles with emotions, carved on a highly "cinematic" canvas, lyrical, dynamic, and overtly dramatic in its own 'outhereness'. BLML's music owes to such diverse stylings such as post-punk, glam-rock and grunge, though in the core of George Karanikolas' songwriting someone can also trace the blues, psych and NYC-punk, as the main forces defining his muse. Crypt Witch : Bad trip exorcism

'Bad Trip Exorcism' is the debut album of the German one-man band Crypt Witch. The creator of this idea -Eugen Kohl- is already known for his talent and versatility. His current projects include: Donarhall, Sinister Downfall, Death Carrier, Hexengrab, Nihilisticon, Urschmerz, Dark Fields and others. This time Eugen showed his passion for stoner doom by creating instrumental and characteristic stoner compositions interwoven with heavy, fuzzy riffs, hypnotic motifs and melodic passages. Eugen completely avoids singing and gives each listener the opportunity to dive into the world of magic and perform their own 'Bad Trip Exorcism'.

Dead Ends : Distant shores

On this second album The Dead Ends explore the late '60s/early '70s, blending psychedelic and early progressive rock sounds with a strong contemporary feel. Guitar riffs and hammond melodies dance on groovie/punchy percussion and basslines, whereas, they often make way to the polyphonic vocals of the band and the bucolic woodwinds of Dimitris. 'Distant Shores' talks about modern society problems and how to overcome these, putting all egos aside. Reminiscing the past and paving the future, The Dead Ends praise universal love in a record to be remembered for years.

Den Der Hale : Harsyra (bone)

After forming in late 2019, Den Der Hale quickly wrote and put out a number of singles, straddling the genres of post-rock and psych. 'Harsyra' is their debut album, a 5-track output which crystallizes their particular brand of post-psych. Tracks range from anthem-like and earthy, to fast paced and grimy, all while keeping an ethereal atmosphere throughout.

Devil Flower Mantis : (black) devil flower mantis

Devil Flower Mantis is a heavy psych band from Athens, Greece, founded in late 2016. In the summer of 2019 they released their first self-titled EP digitally. The band's influences vary, from early '70s heavy to thrash, sludge and grunge, all with a splash of psychedelic seasoning. Song lyrics could be described as completely esoteric. They revolve around internal fears, instincts and personal insight. The band has shared the stage with some of the finest bands of today's Greek underground heavy rock scene.

Dhaze : Deaf dumb blind (bone)

The Dhaze are a power trio,based in Naples, founded in 2017 by Simone Pennucci (vocals/guitar), Vincenzo La Tegola (bass/vocals) and Lorenzo Manna (drums). The band plays a personal variety of psychedelic rock, firstly influenced by '70s music, stoner rock, doom metal and pure lysergic sounds, but also inspired by other musical contexts such as grunge or alternative rock. Among the band influences we find Colour Haze, All Them Witches, Kyuss, Tea Party, Tool, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Dead Meadow and many others. All the artwork concept was realized by Ernesto Nuss, a very active Neapolitan artist! 'Deaf Dumb Blind' is the The Dhaze's debut album. Lyrics are inspired by the dark side of human nature, passing towards the psychological abyss of perceptions, of neurosis and of the deepest fears that live inside each one of us.

Diesel Cindy : Spill the dirt (black)

Diesel Cindy is a band of friends from Athens Greece. Them people share a common passion for a wide spectrum of fuzz sounds blended with a dry bass and old school drum sound. This sound, together with the distinctive voice of a tall angry shadow, deliver melodies inspired from favorite garage bands, mostly from the '60s till the '90s in a contemporary form of expression, revealing stories from the past, and whispering true tales from the present and future. Them friends, being members of other bands in the past, such as One Man Drop, Vibratore Bizarro, Delightful, The Same River, Headquake, have been part of the Athenian underground scene in Greece for many years and have toured around the country several times. However, this time, they share a common project all together. The result is Diesel Cindy's debut LP titled 'Spill The Dirt.'

Drako Gigant : Drako gigant

Drako Gigant is an experimental heavy musical constellation from Athens Greece, formed in 2017 under the concept of exploring heavy music combined with elements of sonic textures like early industrial, ambient, progressive rock, jazz and metal. Improvisation has been the backbone of creating the soundscapes laid down, but not without carefully considering the impact each result might have, first upon the creators and then upon the listener. The members, each coming from different genres and with different approach to how music works and is created, collide in a cauldron of ideas where explosive mixtures and intense dynamics meet and merge into strong bonds of a sound collage full of contradiction; a melting pot of thought provoking color and a deep travel into both the subconscious and dreamy states of mind. In the end this work will have to suffer or win the test of time, depending on the point of view. No boundaries, no walls, just pure music exploration!

Elevators To The Grateful Sky : Nude (purple)

Elevators to the Grateful Sky are back with their third fiery full-length album. 'Nude' showcases an extremely focused sound where early '90s Seattle-Sub Pop vibes melt with seducing psychedelic sections, heavy riffage and dreamy, sun-burnt instrumentals. Mastered at famed Mammoth Sound Mastering studio by Dan Randall (Iron Reagan, Noothgrush, 'The Walking Dead' OST and countless others) and decorated by carefully hand-drawn imagery by vocalist Sandro Di Girolamo. Gagulta : Gagulta (black)

Debut album of Greek doom/sludge/noise ensemble Gagulta. Gagulta in Aramaic means "the place of a skull" (or kraniou topos in Greek) and it came from the Hebrew word gulgolet which means "skull". The album review section of the Greek Metal Hammer magazine rated the band's self titled debut with 8/10 mentioning Gagulta's music as "heavyweight sludge doom with a punk infusion" and the review headline was "longdive into the mud" which is as close as it gets to what the band is all about: heavy and sludgy riffs with a doom aesthetic, crusty breaks and blackened vocals!

Giant Dwarf are from the isolated capital of Western Australia, Perth. They are obsessed with all things fuzzy/heavy/psychey/droney/proggy and weird.

With new collaborators on drums, Lucia Martinez and Achim Faerber, supported on bass by Roland Feinaeugle, Glen have crafted an album that breaths an air of mystery, tension and suspenseful furor.

Green Pajamas : Phantom lake: northern gothic 3 (2lp)

'Phantom Lake: Northern Gothic 3' is the final installment of the trilogy which began in 2002 with 'Northern Gothic' (Camera Obscura). It was followed up by, 'Box Of Secrets: Northern Gothic 2' (Hidden Agenda) in 2007. When Laura Weller and Jeff Kelly were thinking about where their next project might go, Laura introduced the idea of writing songs inspired by childhood. She had grown up in a neighborhood called Phantom Lake, memories of which eventually inspired four songs on this record. Jeff also drew from youth, remembering trips to Lost Lake, about twelve miles out of Shelton, Washington, where relatives had a cabin, as well as many vacations to the Washington coast over the years. Eric Lichter remembers a family from his past in the song, 'The Rosebergs,' about a catastrophic tsunami roaring in off of the Pacific. These are the same landscapes that populated many of the songs on the two previous 'Northern Gothic' albums. The grey skies, the endless evergreens, the "black and blue moon" and "a thousand crows" which hang over small lakeside or West Coast towns populated by the lonesome, the unlucky-in-loves and even a few slightly eerie children. This is a dark album. It is about obsession and sorrow and murder and too much whisky. The characters that permeate these songs exist in the shadows, often in the margins of society. These lost souls of the northern gothic world of Phantom Lake remind us of what it is to be human.

Sound Effect Records is delighted to release the Green Pajamas album 'Forever For A Little While' (Green Monkey Records CD, 2022), reimagined as a vinyl LP for 2023. Rechristened 'This Floating World Is A Dream' - band leader, Jeff Kelly's working title for the album - the vinyl version features all new artwork and has been resequenced to fit closer to Kelly's original vision of melancholy Akira Kurosawa landscapes painted with Persian setars, analogue synthesizers and backwards electric guitars. Featuring the seasoned craft of all four songwriters, Kelly, Eric Lichter, Laura Weller and Joe Ross, across 15 tracks, 'This Floating World Is A Dream' rings with the classic Green Pajamas vibe of past glories like 'Strung Behind The Sun' and 'All Clues Lead To Meagan's Bed' while simultaneously adding something refreshingly new to their already considerable discography. With the omission of three uptempo rock songs, the gentler moments on the album, like 'The Hidden Fortress' or 'Princess Misa,' seem to gain new depth and complexity, while at the same time allowing fan favorites like 'Six Minutes In Heaven' and 'Joy Ride' to shine even brighter.

Griffin, Jim : The signal (black)

Jim Griffin is a multi-instrumental musician and producer from Limerick, Ireland. As part of post-rock instrumentalists Zombie Picnic, Jim released two well-received albums via Golden Shred Records (Ireland) between 2016 and 2018. Both albums gained high praise in places such as Goldmine Magazine, Prog Magazine, Sea of Tranquility and The Progressive Aspect. As a solo performer, Jim has also released two experimental folk-tinged albums via psychedelic folk drone label Reverb Worship (UK) and has been featured on the Krautrock specialist label Fruits de Mer (UK). 'The Signal' marks Jim's first appearance on the Sound Effect Record label (Greece). The album is a space rock concept album, recounting the tale of an Edwardian astronomer in 1902 and his astounding discovery of an alien signal from distant Sirius. The album recounts the effect of this strange event on his life and tells a cosmic story of "what might have been" across seven varied and progressive tracks. The album features a range of guest musicians and electronic artists from across Ireland, the UK and the US. Most notably including original Blue Öyster Cult founding member Joe Bouchard.

Featuring unreleased recordings from this Greek stoner rockband's first period, the years 1993 to 1995, 'Roots AndBranches' manifests Headquake's magical combination of rawriff-rock power and stoner grooves. The legendary poet, musician, performer and overall cult figure of Athens' '80s underground scene has sustained his reputation thanks to the continuous mythical status surrounding him and the few YouTube videos that also capture his thrilling performances. Drawing from his love for genres as '50s exotica, garage-rock and surf, motorik space-rock, nu-jazz and more, R.R. Hearse created a genuine DIY no-wave/art-punk/avant rock gem.

Hibiscus Biscuit : Reflection of mine (black)

After a long year of recordings, shows and debaucherous behaviour, Sydney psychedelic quartet Hibiscus Biscuit have launched their debut album release: 'Reflection of Mine'. Hibiscus Biscuit's brand of psychedelic rock cavorts about between driving syncopated breakdowns, melancholic lullabies and tight progressive groove sections. Coupled with an immersive live experience headed by frontman Ricardo Moreira, their music is most likely to induce tears of joy from your third eye. Hailing from Portugal, Australia and Canada, members Ricardo, Sy, Jason and Aidan can usually be found lurking in back alleys after their shows.

Iron Blanket : Astral wanderer (red)

Sound Effect (Greece) and Copper Feast Records (UK) present the debut album from Australian heavy-psych band Iron Blanket! Sydney riff wizards Iron Blanket formed in 2020. Born out of the huge weed haze that was lockdown one, the band set about ripping it up on local stages as soon as they were allowed. Initially the five-piece bonded over a love of seventies rock music... drawing influence from the heavy licks of Black Sabbath, Pentagram and the psychedelic exploration of Hawkwind and Pink Floyd. But as the jams got heavier and the fuzz pedals got weirder, thick and dirty nineties inspired grooves and feedback started to appear, to round out the band's sound. After a year of gigging as much as possible (with the likes of Sasquatch, Dozer and Astrodeath) the band was ready to record their debut album 'Astral Wanderer.' 'Astral Wanderer' is a natural continuation of the band's sound with mammoth fuzz riffs, rhythmic choruses and dark psych soundscapes felt with tension, inspired by occult worship imagery and Australian barren landscapes. This distinctive sound has quickly given Iron Blanket the reputation of one of Sydney's best stoner/psych bands.

King Isxan are a Tel Aviv-based trio consisting of two guitars and drums. Fascinated by the broken metres and chromatic scales of their Mideastern culture, they blend local sounds from the ancient Maqams to the melodies of the "Eastern" music scene that emerged in Israel in the '80s with fresh neo-psychedelic influences. Sound Effect Records presents the definitive vinyl edition of one of modern psych classics, Lamp Of The Universe's 2001 debut, 'The Cosmic Union,' as a double gatefold vinyl with restored artwork, no extra tracks, no fancy stuff, just Lamp Of The Universe's transcendental experience as it was meant to be. Lamp Of The Universe is a solo project by Craig Williamson, who was the vocalist, lyricist and bass player in the mighty Datura, but this is the total opposite of that group's full-on rock overload. 'The Cosmic Union' is an incense drenched mellow groove of an album, with sitars, tablas, flute, keyboards, spacious guitar and stoned trancy drumming. The authentic eastern flavoured '60s sound is comparable to Dead Flowers, Saddar Bazaar and Tangle Edge, combined with the hypnotic groove of Spacemen 3 and the spacier moments of Porcupine Tree. The perfect, opium-hazed soundtrack to those "quiet nights in".

Lamp Of The Universe, aka Craig Williamson, the New Zealand-based one-man psych-rock institution, teams up with renown space-rock alchemyst Dr Space, aka Oresund Space Collective (OSC), on an epic mind trip conceived and realized between Portugal and Hamilton, NZ. A time/space symphony spread in two tracks, 'Enter Your Somas' and 'Infiltrates Your Mind.' Not for the faint-hearted!

Light Pillars : Light pillars (purple)

Australian noisy psych project Light Pillars consisting of Toby - guitars (Hotel Wrecking City Traders) and Andrew - drums (Comacozer) came together in June 2019 at Cellar Sessions Studios in Melbourne for an improved jam session. Both bands having played together previously and after some ideas and banter being thrown around the two decided to finally get together and see what the cosmos can produce and this release debut self-titled release resulting in 4 tracks of noisy dark heavy instrumental psych rock. Recorded in one session with Max behind the recording desk and mastered by Kent Stump (Crystal Clear Sound Studios, Dallas, Texas USA) and amazing artwork by Dora Wednesday, this is one journey taking diverse release. Magick Brother & Mystic Sister, the mysterious band from Barcelona, return with not one, but 2 albums! 'Tarot Part I' and 'Tarot Part II' (follows ca. 2 months after #1) is a concept album in 2 parts, a psychedelic record, a kaleidoscope of songs based upon the Major Arcana of the Tarot, a cross-cultural dream language. With their signature imaginative compositions, featuring space-age keys and spiraling synthesizers, intricate guitar mosaics and bass lines, powerful drums, tribal percussion and exotic instruments carving textures for atmospheric feminine vocals, MBMS merge a kind of dream-prog, of the Canterbury variety, with retro-futuristic sounds and magic folk atmospheres, shaping up their own universe, thus turning the 'Tarot' concept into an unmissable experience! The band decided to release the record in two parts, giving the listener more time to meditate upon the music. This is an album that is meant to be listened to and experienced visually on vinyl, its sleeve recalling the bold designs of the late 1960s - early 1970s - when the two records are combined, the interior gatefolds form an astrological mandala, a planetary wheel. For this album MBMS, (Eva Muntada (synthesizers, mellotron, organ, piano), Xavier Sandoval (bass and guitar), Alejandro Carmona (drums) and, new member of the band, Toni Jagwar (sitar) are joined by Maya Fernandez (flute) on two songs, Glenn Brigman (vocals) and Didac Fernandez (percussion).

Magma Haze : Magma haze (black)

Magma Haze is a four piece psychedelic stoner band from Italy. The band was born in 2019 in Bologna as an instrumental trio, featuring Lorenzo De Lellis on guitar, Ludwig Becker on bass and Yari Decima on drums. In 2021 the singer Alessandro D'Arcangeli joined the band, and the result of this encounter is their first studio album. The album was self-recorded in the middle of the Alps in early 2022. Mixing mellow melodies, monolithic riffs, psychedelic diversions and odd time variations, Magma Haze is a synthesis of multiple and diverse influences that seeks to reimagine psychedelia in a modern way. Inspired by both classic and desert rock, the six tracks of the album outline a journey between typical stoner atmospheres and more experimental territories, evolving into a familiar and alienating experience at the same time.

Me And My Kites : Is it real or is it made

A CD-reissue of the whimsical and colourful second full-length (2015) from Me And My Kites, a Swedish psych-/prog-folk unit that was named after a song by the English early '70s band Fuchsia. The group is led by David Svedmyr and also features AnnaMy, Lisa Isaksson (Lisa O Piu) and Mattias Gustavsson (Dungen and Life on Earth!).
