When Steve Marriott left the Small Faces in 1969, the three remaining members brought in guitarist Ron Wood and lead singer Rod Stewart to complete the line-up and changed their name to the Faces, which was only appropriate since the group now only slightly resembled the mod-pop group of the past. Instead, the Faces were a rough, sloppy rock & roll band, able to pound out a rocker like 'Had Me A Real Good Time,' a blues ballad like 'Tell Everyone,' or a folk number like 'Richmond' all in one album. Stewart, already becoming a star in his own right, let himself go wild with the Faces, tearing through covers and originals with abandon. While his voice didn't have the power of Stewart, bassist Ronnie Lane's songs were equally as impressive and eclectic. We left Sammy Decoster and Fabien Guidollet on the branch of the tree where their magnificent first album 'La Maison Sous Les Eaux' had sat them in 2016: acoustic duo with heady vocal harmonies traveling through the undergrowth of rural France, largely ignored by the current music world. The sun has set behind the castle and has given way to a night populated by fantastic creatures while Horse Postmen seem to have reconciled with humans, to whom they grant a certain empathy, when he is willing to take the trouble (like them) to look up. And in fact their album 'Chante-Nuit' is imbued throughout its nine tracks with a thirst for weightlessness, fleeing immobility, mud and resentment, to highlight imagination, dance and ultimately arouse hope.
