Sula Bassana : Loop station drones
Sula did it again. An album recorded in 3 evenings. This time some 'Loop Station Drones'. With guitar, effect pedals, 2 loop stations, 2 guitar amps, a syncable drum computer, a very old organ from GDR (Weltmeister TO 200/5), a very old synthesizer (Roland SH 5) and a modern one (Roland SE-02) Sula instantly composed 7 tracks. Later Sula cutted them down a little and made some very little overdubs. 'Roadburn Haze' was exclusively made for the Roadburn Festival Redux in April 2021. Recorded on the 28th of March, together with tracks 2 and 7. Tracks 3-6 recorded on the 13th and 14th of May for Radio KFJC home stream-concert. But only the first 3 of them appeared. These were filmed by Thierry Miguet for Wah Wah TV and you can watch it at his great Youtube channel.

Repress! SULA BASSANA, a.k.a. German multi-instrumentalist Dave Schmidt, is the guitarist for Electric Moon, drummer in Zone Six, and synth and organ-grinder in Krautzone, And of course he's also known for his solo-albums, offering music that ranges from spacerock to psychedelia to Kraut'ish electronic outings. Though he hardly ever performs live as Sula Bassana, he appeared at the 2014 edition of the Roadburn festival, using that moniker and accompanied by a strong band! 'CV Sessions' are a combination of the time of the coronavirus and the equipment Sula used in these times, which is analog gear connected and modulated with CV cables (control voltage). Double meaning. Sula used a bunch of small analog synthesizers, drummachines, sequencers, a polyphonic synth, a string ensemble, a casio SK 1 & SK 60, Stylophone x1, guitars, a bass, Mellotron and whatever. Recorded simply and never spending much time on it. The first track was recorded late March 2020, others followed until December. All music composed, performed, recorded and mixed by Sula Bassana (Dave Schmidt) in his bedroom. Mastered by Eroc. Coverdesign by Sula. Limited to 400 copies on voodoo vinyl, includes the track 'What is Reality' which is missing on the CD.

The title track is something different, very melodic, even slightly jazzy, and features Mellotron and some pure fuzz. 'Wurmloch' is a full space flight based on a synthesizer arpeggio with the rest recorded around later. And the album ends with the oldest of these tracks: 'Mellotraum.' This was the first track Sula recorded with his freshly arrived Mellotron (4000d) on it's first day, back in 2013. Limited to 500 copies on 180gr black wax.

A 6 CD box by Sula Bassana, simply titled 'The Box'. It contains these titles: 'Endless Winter', on CD 1 and 2, recorded in March 2006 and previously only released as a limited CD-r. 'Silent Music', on CD3 and 4, is for sure the softest music recorded by Sula, recorded between 1999 and 2009 at different places and only previously available on a limited CD-r. CD5 contains Sula's sides of the split albums with Vibravoid and 3 AM, both released on vinyl in a small print run. CD 6 is album with unreleased and newly recorded tracks.
