Julia Hülsmann Quartet : The next door

On The Next Door Julia Hülsmann returns with the quartet from 2019's Not Far From Here, and presents her unique pianistic voice in a varied programme of almost exclusively original music, composed by herself and her colleagues - tenor saxophonist Uli Kempendorff, Marc Muellbauer on double bass and drummer Heinrich Köbberling. A deep respect for the jazz tradition, as cultivated in the post-bop and modal jazz of the 60s, permeates this session and, with the quartet's modern twist, sets the stage for highly expressive soloing and profound interplay.

Virtuoso jazz bassist, Carl Mayotte is a musician, arranger, composer and producer. His first album Fantosme, co-produced with Michel Cusson, allowed him to be named the Jazz Revelation by Radio-Canada in 2020 and to be nominated at the Gala de l'ADISQ 2020 in the in the category Jazz Album of the year. Now teaming up with Analekta, this prolific musician is releasing his third album, in which he explores jazz fusion and world music. He writes: "I am happy and honored to finally present my new album Escale. As its title says, this album is a musical journey that differs from my usual musical universe and it was composed in a different way too. Improvisation and instinct taking the place of reflection and hours of doubts that usually inhabit my composition techniques."

Foster, Ronnie : Two headed freap

Organist Ronnie Foster caught the ear of Blue Note Records after appearing on guitarist Grant Green’s 1970 album Alive! and went on to make his own Blue Note debut with the 1972 jazz-funk classic Two Headed Freap. The vibrant set included funky covers of Al Green and Wilson Pickett along with compelling originals including “Mystic Brew,” which A Tribe Called Quest would later sample on their hip hop classic “Electric Relaxation.”
