This guidebook contains explicit and versatile instructions how to play the Finnish 11-string kantele. The instructions can easily be applied to 10-15 -string kanteles as well. The first part introduces tuning, different scales and diverse playing techniques with the help of colour images. The songs contain both traditional tunes from Finland and other European countries, and also Finnish contemporary kantele music. In the end there is a separate part for early-childhood educators. The main goal is to encourage players to use improvisation and variation – that is how this ancient tradition is kept alive.
